We were part of the Uniworld tour group that started our China tour with a two night stay in Beijing at the Ritz-Carlton. While mostly everything was of a calibre expected of a Ritz-Carlton i.e. 5 star hotel, There are a couple of spots where the service could have been better. Staff were all eager to please and engaging and the room more than satisfactory. However, we had eaten the buffet breakfast three times at Aroma as well as a buffet dinner there once. Where I thought improvements could be sought were items like, luke warm congee at breakfast every morning. The containers were kept in a warming server but obviously the congee was not superhot to start with and cooled with time during the several hours of breakfast service. The same temperature issues were found with some of the other Chinese items that were supposed to be kept hot. This type of attention to detail remains memorable as time goes on. In retrospect, nearly 50% of the top hotels we stayed at during our 18 day tour (including several Shangri-La Hotels) served tepid congee and items cooked at the egg station that were served on cold plates.
Other than that, the hotel performed up to its expected level of performance.More
