I can’t give this hotel any higher because as previous posts have said the cleanliness of the bathroom isn’t all that great, but for the price and location it deserves a 5 star. The reception staff were most helpful and sorted a very cheap taxi for us to the train station at 5am. Would also highly recommend the tour to Mutianyu Wall that you can purchase through them - an interesting experience of road travel in Beijing, but mainly a very cheap method of getting to what is a stunning monument (with reasonable breakfast and lunch included).

We booked online after reading decent reviews, however the hotel (located in a back alley of a fairly sketchy area) was far from ok. We checked in with a polite and well spoken front desk attendant, and made our way to our room. Our room had a distinct smell of sewage backing up from the toilet and sink. The sink was clogged, and took about 20-30 minutes to drain. And the shower appeared to have been cleaned maybe once a year.

There was back mould growing in the shower, and on the bottom of the wooden night stands. After checking in, we went back down to see if there was a cleaner room, but the front desk was shut down, lights off. Arriving at 11pm from a late flight we felt we had no choice but to stay. We woke up feeling sick, and left without a shower. 2 blocks up was the Crowne Plaza hotel where we found some decent food, and clean pubic washrooms. I believe the price of a room was about double, but if I had a chance, I would certainly spend the extra money.

The Jade Hotel was filthy, mouldy, and I would not recommend anyone to stay there. Do yourself a favour and spend a bit more for a clean space.

Room tip: get a room at a different hotel...

This seems to be a very basic hotel that has been converted into a hostel. It wasn’t beautiful but was clean enough. The location was great and within walking distance to quite a few of the major sites, such as the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Also within walking distance to a large APM shopping centre with quite a few restaurant options. A bit of walk to the metro, but not bad.

Ran into a couple of issues with the toilet not flushing, but these was easily resolved after speaking to the front desk. Like most budget hotels in China, there was a stale smoke smell in the room. The staff were friendly and helpful, and made sure we were able to get set up with the wifi and pointed out some places of interest nearby.

Only stayed here as part of a tour, so it probably wouldn’t have been my first pick, however it seems to be a solid choice if travelling on a tight budget.

Can recommend this hotel to anyone. I was very well treated by staff, received invaluable information about which sights to see, and was served some good (and cheap) food in their restaurant. Just go there.

This is a reasonably comfortable cost-effective hotel, and also located next to the forbidden city, supermarkets and nice restaurants. The staff is friendly, although only a few members could speak fluent English. The only problem of this budget hotel, in my opinion, was the distance to the subway station (about a twenty minute walk). That can be frustrating after a long touring day. You can only get wi fi access in the lobby, which is not convenient at all. In the brighter side, they also have an excellent inexpensive restaurant.
