I had previously stayed at a hotel on the Tsinghua campus and found it too distant from the Wudaokou metro, so moved to the UNIS Hotel. It may be because I am comparing to the previous hotel, but I really enjoyed the UNIS Center hotel. The rooms, contrary to what many others have reported, were clean, spacious, and comfortable. I did not find the beds to be extraordinarily hard, but maybe I've grown accustomed to beds in China. This is not a 5 star hotel, but you're also not paying for 5 stars. I love the location--less than a five minute walk to the Wudaokou metro, which opens the whole city to you. Many of the staff do not speak English, but I was generally able to find someone who could, and the staff there were unfailingly polite and earnest in their desire to help. It helps to remember that you are in China, not wherever it is that you are from. The breakfasts are buffet style and quite good--a mix of Chinese and Western food. They tend to consistently cook fried eggs until the yolks are hard, but I was able to communicate that I prefer them over easy and, after the first time, they recognized me and made my eggs exactly as I preferred, even without asking. Within about 100 meters is Quanjude (approximately pronounced "Chen Judah"), where you can find some of the best Peking duck in existence. Lots of other restaurants nearby, with all manner of Chinese g\food. McDonald's and Burger King are also on the way to the metro, if you are missing American fast food. Overall, I would recommend this hotel without reservation, as long as you are not looking for a fice star experience.
