This hotel has AC and Beijing can get hot. But when I was there, it was turned off at night. So you arrive in your room in the evening, it is 26 deg C, and it never goes down the whole night. Very convenient that they give you a nice, comfortable thick blanket to keep you even warmer. You can open the window about 2 inches, but it slams shut if you don’t wedge something in there. The internet is slow slow slow (but that is true a lot of places in china). Breakfast is not great, and no real bar area. Nobody speaks English except visitors who can help you translate. On the plus side, the rooms are clean and comfortable! It would be a great place if not for all the other stuff. My room faced the road, and you get horns all day, every 2 seconds, if you dare to work in your room. It does get quieter at night, so that is a plus. Try the Holiday Inn for a better experience (although it is not really near anything).

This is a top-notch business style hotel within walking distance of Tsinghua University's East Gate. Has both a sumptuous buffet breakfast and lunch that should meet the needs of visitors from most places around the world. My room was at the end of the hall on the 8th floor, very quiet and well-appointed. Staff was helpful at all levels

Located next to Tsinghua Technology Park, in the heart of China’s Silicon Valley. Check was a bit 'painful'. Could not find the reservation, the passport copy/scanner was not working, housekeeping kept us in the hallway for about 8 minutes while she completed room turnover. No clear instructions on how to access the free wifi. Had to call front desk for assistance - they sent up a person to show us how.
Thick carpet /padding made for a bit of rolling resistance for the suitcases in the hallway and into the room. Hope that will dampen the noise while sleeping. Street noise even on the 8th floor is pretty loud.
Room is large with a high ceiling and well lit. Bed is average hard for China. They think that the harder the bed the better it is - just the opposite of North American ideas of a sleeping surface.
4 places to plug in 110v including both sides of the bed.

I had previously stayed at a hotel on the Tsinghua campus and found it too distant from the Wudaokou metro, so moved to the UNIS Hotel. It may be because I am comparing to the previous hotel, but I really enjoyed the UNIS Center hotel. The rooms, contrary to what many others have reported, were clean, spacious, and comfortable. I did not find the beds to be extraordinarily hard, but maybe I've grown accustomed to beds in China. This is not a 5 star hotel, but you're also not paying for 5 stars. I love the location--less than a five minute walk to the Wudaokou metro, which opens the whole city to you. Many of the staff do not speak English, but I was generally able to find someone who could, and the staff there were unfailingly polite and earnest in their desire to help. It helps to remember that you are in China, not wherever it is that you are from. The breakfasts are buffet style and quite good--a mix of Chinese and Western food. They tend to consistently cook fried eggs until the yolks are hard, but I was able to communicate that I prefer them over easy and, after the first time, they recognized me and made my eggs exactly as I preferred, even without asking. Within about 100 meters is Quanjude (approximately pronounced "Chen Judah"), where you can find some of the best Peking duck in existence. Lots of other restaurants nearby, with all manner of Chinese g\food. McDonald's and Burger King are also on the way to the metro, if you are missing American fast food. Overall, I would recommend this hotel without reservation, as long as you are not looking for a fice star experience.

Room tip: rooms on the long hallway (across from elevators), as opposed to the wings, look out onto a pretty park

If you don't have any business at Tsinghua University, I can't imagine that the Unisplendour makes a whole lot of sense. If you do and you want to be nearby (or as was my case, you do and this is where they booked you) you can relax. This place will do fine. I managed to deal with the staff despite language barriers. The beds are as hard as they say, but did not bother me. The housekeeping staff is terrific. Western items are more notable for their absence than their presence at breakfast. The wifi is a total disaster.
