Owner description: Built in 1420 with a total area of 270 acres, this is the largest building for religious worship in China, which was originally used by the Ming and Qing emperors to pay homage to Heaven and to pray for a year of rich harvest.

More pictoresque though not as grand as the buildings in the Forbidden city, the Temple of Heaven is a worthy tourist site for any visitor to Beijing. Particularly for the Chinese life that takes place in the grounds of the Temple especially in the mornings when every senior citizen is out in the fresh air engaging in some form of exercise or dance activities.

The was an unexpected delight to see the Temple of Heaven. It is in the main tourist area and easy to get to. Well worth the trip

The main draw of the Temple of Heaven is the temple itself, as there's not much around it to actually see. You can only look into the temple. If you are short on time in Beijing, skip this attraction. Plan to spend less than 1 hour.

Architecturally based on the old Chinese belief of a square earth in a round universe, the monument magically radiates peace, tranquility and harmony. Emphasising life after death and equality of souls, the high platform accessed by several steps , supports the main dome with the blue hue merging into the sky signifying heavenly calm. Quite a contrast to the hustle bustle of the Chinese capital immediately outside the gates !

Probably one of the most beautiful temples and photo opportunities in Beijing. The blue of the temple and the (sometimes) blue sky make a great photo and Screensaver. The park of the temple us very nice too. You can see locals practice taichi in the morning and dance to Chinese and western music in the afternoons.
