Our entire stay at the hotel was great.

The lobby is very unassuming, filled with luxury shops and a cafe rather than the traditional checkin desks.

The room was filled with modern & automated lighting/curtains/sound system/concierge services. It was the first time I’d say that the system actually worked well, and made logical sense! At some hotels with these touch button things they are awkward to use, but the Peninsula added value with this automation.

The rooftop bar is nice, as is the gym and pool.

The location is perfect.

I had previously stayed at the Peninsula Beijing back in 2009, and was delighted to see how well it has been refurbished since then. The rooms are palatial - plenty of space in the bedroom, as well as a separate walk-in wardrobe, ample bathroom, office area and TV/dining room. Two toilets! And the iPad-style control centre for the gadgets in the room worked really well. Huge variety and high quality at breakfast. The only part of our experience which could have been improved was the check-out process, which was slow and a bit chaotic, and the WiFi was not as fast as I would expect in a hotel of this standard. Other than that, it was all good, a great place to stay in Beijing.

- Great location - walking distance to Wangfujing and forbidden city
- Great service - usual top tier 5 star hotel experience - helpful concierge that can do restaurant bookings, responsive on email before arrival, vase of roses, cake and chocolates for a honeymoon booking, perfect english
- Great rooms - all suites, we stayed in a premier suite which was very roomy
- Great pricing - a suite like this isn't going to be anywhere near this cheap in NY or London!

My son and I stayed at the Peninsula Beijing for 11 nights during late August and had a thoroughly delightful experience. This was my first visit to Beijing, but I have stayed at top hotels in London, Rome, NYC, etc. (including the truly excellent Peninsula in Chicago), and this property compares very favorably to the best hotels in the world. The property itself, which combines traditional Chinese design with modern architecture, welcomes guests with an immense, open lobby that lends a sense of occasion to simply entering the building. The location is very good for tourists, being a short drive from the Forbidden City and the famous Wangfujing shopping street (be sure to visit the side alleys for street food). The Ritz Carlton is a block away in one direction and several exotic car showrooms in the other direction; there is a Starbucks two blocks away; two subway lines are within a few blocks. The rooms are all suites, with electronic controls for lights and drapes, etc. that are easy to use. Our room on the 13th floor was large, with a sliding door between the bedroom and sitting room; it had a walk-in closet with a butler's closet accessible from the hallway. Room service was seemingly instantaneous, which was great for eating at odd times when we were too tired to go out. The staff was universally polite and helpful, with most speaking English. I have to give a special compliment to May Wu, the head of customer services (aka Concierge); she went above and beyond to help my son arrange a flight back from a side trip to Xian after he encountered travel problems with his train. I would also give kudos to Kevin at the lobby lounge and Amy at the front desk. We had perhaps our best dinner at the Huang Ting restaurant in the lower level of the hotel; the food was excellent; the service was calm, attentive and professional and the ambiance was traditional with antique appointments. The Peninsula is not the least expensive place stay in Beijing, but I would guess it is the best place to stay, and presents a good value compared to other landmark hotels in global markets. This is THE place to stay in Beijing.

I was lucky enough to stay here on a business trip, and I can’t say enough about the place! It’s a stunning building, but the suites, spa, gym and restaurants are something else.
The service is above what you’d expect for a 5* hotel, and the staff should be praised for their attention to detail. Special mention to the Guest Services Manager - Anna. If your in Beijing, and they have capacity I would thoroughly recommend that you stay here, it will enhance your trip immensely.
