Some of the other reviews are bizarre. While it isn't a 5 start hotel in San Fransisco, it is certainly a nice place with a modern design, and is far nicer than several other ostensibly similar hotels I've stayed at in China.
Pros:
- Nice room design with a convenient desk, glass wall on the bathroom with shade gives (optionally) nice lighting
- Excellent lighting. More light switches than most western hotels, and sensibly wired, with a master switch by the bed that kills the lights, but not the laptop plug at the desk. Indirect lighting in the ceiling available.
- Internet is good and bad. Wireless and wired options available on the pro side.
- Nice bathroom. Strong shower with hand sprayer and separate large tub.
- Two small bottles of water for toothbrushing/drinking free each day, with a large (1.5L?) bottle in the mini-bar for 15chy if you want to make the complementary coffee/tea.
- nice view (assuming it's clear enough and you're high enough, I was on 16F)
- umbrella provided in closet (it actually rained 2 days while I was there)
Cons:
- The bed was pretty hard and a bit worn, but I've seen worse in China
- The internet, while they had good connectivity within the hotel, actual internet access sucks. However, I would say this is a government issue, not a hotel issue, as it really isn't any better even on the university...Some of the other reviews are bizarre. However, I would say this is a government issue, not a hotel issue, as it really isn't any better even on the university campus. They have taken to blocking VPN connections now as well as direct connections to services like Google which they don't like.
- Lack of A/C - This is again, not a Hotel issue. Beijing prohibits A/C in all buildings before May 1 each year, so mid-April sucks if it's warm out, particularly on higher floors. The fan in the system seems good, so probably fine after April.
