The Hotel Venus's décor, exterior, and rooms all need renovation. The carpet was threadbare in the room, the mattress was collapsed, and one day my towels had strange stains on them. The breakfast, in particular the coffee, was very unappetizing and repetitive. They really need to work on that.

That said, the power was always on and the internet worked every day but one for me. With the exception of these young servers who would never let me finish what I was eating or drinking over breakfast, the staff were all very nice. They called me by name after a few days. One day I left a camera in the breakfast room, and a server came running out with it to return it to me. As a woman traveling alone, the hotel felt very safe. The location was conveniently located for the work I was doing, which was extremely important given the very nightmarish traffic in Kinshasa. Compared to other hotels in the city, the price was not bad.

It is an old, dirty and scruffy dump. The rooms lack the basics (no lights, no hangers etc). The bed linen and towels are old and in very poor conditions. The shower falls apart when you try to use it. The A/C does not work. No cleaning, no service and no assistance (front desk people very annoyed at the idea of actually working) . A few cockroaches enjoyed the table of the buffet. Wifi occasionally working. All this for about 150USD per night. By the way, they say that C/C are accepted, but it is not the case and I had to pay cash.
Kinshasa noways offers brand new hotels for the same price and in the same area, if you like it, so there is no really point in suffering. Besides, location maybe safer than others, but no much around if you want to go out for dinner.

Just make your life better and don't go there.

Room Tip: For a good room, please select a different hotel

Stayed at Hotel Venus for 3 nights and it is a decent place to stay for business meeting. Its near the embassies and so it felt secure. The staff are friendly and they ensure they have at least one person at front desk who speaks English. The door men and security speak little English and were always helpful.
The hotel has good WIFI, and we were able to surf from anywhere within the hotel including our rooms (on the 4th floor). Their rooms have CNN, BBC , the rest of the TV channels are French. They have a great aircon, mini fridge and the rooms are quite spacious and clean. I didn't really explore other hotel facilities.
My only problem was the door lock didn't work from the inside (room 405), and they did not fix it after I asked.
They have breakfast 'buffet' which is adequate, but if you have a special diet it would wise to carry your fruit, milk and cereal. The room service chef spoke no English but they would a waiter with basic English. their food is reasonably priced compared to other hotels in Kinshasa.
I would definitely to go back again but for a business trip.

It used to be good a few years ago, but now there are better hotels in Kinshasa for slightly lower prices. The rooms are a bit tacky, and the bathrooms are equipped with fancy looking but very bad quality appliances. It happened several times that there was no water in the rooms or that the water pressure was not sufficient to take a shower (especially on the 4th floor). The windows are not equipped with mosquito screens, which does not really encourage you to open the window at night. The staff at the reception tried to convince me that the AC supplies as much fresh air as an open window. In return I tried to explain how an AC works, and that not a single molecule of oxygen can enter into the room through the AC, but it was all in vain. On the plus side, the breakfast is OK.

Room Tip: Don't choose the 4th floor if you like to have water in your bathroom.

I expected too much for my trip and I was disappointed to the state of the hotel stayed in January 12 and the manager gave a discount of $80 per night , which was good .
The lady in the breakfast bar was so unwelcoming and rude. the lady and the young man at reception where great .
every morning the noises where too much from the cleaning staffs and by the pool there is a barbecue on Fridays .
I wouldn't stay there again but its good value for money.
