An amazing story behind this tunnel. It was carved out of solid rock to supply water to the city during times of siege. Water still flows through it, and the walking tour takes you through the ankle to mid-thigh deep, cold water. Take your water shoes and a head lamp. There is also a dry version of the walk, I believe.

We loved this place but it was spoiled for us by a group of young americans singing loudly on their way through the tunnel.
It is amazing to think that this tunnel was dug by hand so many centuries ago from both ends and then meeting in the middle. The pool at the end is a little bit of a disappointment as it is very partially excavated.
A bonus was a small shop at the end of the tunnel with authenticated finds from the excavations available for purchase.
I would recommend this as an interesting place to visit. Bring footwear and clothing that you are happy to get wet in, as the water can get to about knee height.

Such a unique experience to be able to pass through a hand hewn tunnel that was created to carry water that is still doing that today although it was dug more than 2500 years ago.

The Hezekiah' s tunnel is also know as the Siloam tunnel is basically an underground water tunnel. The story according to the Bible is that King Hezekiah was getting ready for an attack by the Assyrians and hence the construction of the tunnel.Worth a visit only if you have extra time to spare.

Family had a really fun time walking through the tunnel. I hadn't been there for many years and was really impressed with the preview tour of the excavations ending with the water tunnels. Interesting and fun. Highly recommended.
