Hagia Sophia is one the most magnificent structures surviving from the ancient world. It was first a cathedral, then a mosque and it is now a museum. It was for many years the largest religious building in the world. Hagia Sophia is awe-inspiring. How did the archietect manage to build a structure this size that lasted over 1,000 years?

Important for its secular symbol combining Christianity and Islam, thanks to the visionary leader Ataturk.

biggest tourist attraction in istanbul
lots of history!
unfortunately I caught the church in remodelations which greatly diminishes the pleasure of the visit, nevertheless it does not invalidate its grandeur!
