Stopped here for lunch whilst transferring from one area of Mauritius to another; we were a group of ten plus our lovely Mauritian guide. We had a warm welcome and enjoyed the three course set meal. One of our party has a cheese allergy and this had been catered for. The service was very good and the food hot and tasty and it was a very pleasant lunch stop in a very nice setting.

Le batelage offers a magnificent setting with its historic building and the waterfront view.(We were able to witness the sunset which only made our dinner there memorable) .We had crab soup and octopus salad as starters. As main course we had a venison steak with fries and a lamb rougaille .The food was just exquisite and typically Mauritian.

The restaurant is in a nice setting in a small inlet of the old port, and the interior of the attached mansion is well preserved, with fine wood panels and staircases with balconies. The restaurant, however, was a contrast: set in a covered verandah, the service and the food were awful. The staff seemed disinterested, and despite having had plenty of warning of the arrival of our party of 16, it was slow, they were surly and the meal was unappetising. OK, so a group can be difficult, but we were the only people there. The starter of seafood au gratin, served in a scallop shell, was matted together and chewy, suggesting that it had sat around for a long time. Similarly, the fish (grouper/snapper fillet) course had been pre-cooked many hours, if not the day before, so it was cold and tough. The addition of flies everywhere did not fill us with confidence about the food hygiene. Some of the group asked for it to be re-heated, which simply made it inedible. The dessert of banana in syrup with a blob of melting ice cream rounded off a perfectly revolting meal, and complaints to the staff and management were not well received. The charges for drinks, including table water, were exorbitant. I got the impression that they were as glad to see the back of us as were to leave...

This restaurant was billed as a highlight on the itinerary, and the local visits leading up to it were just time-padding: it might have been better to strike on up to the next resort and a better restaurant.

Excellent sea to table fresh fish and seafood. The ambience and quiet location make this a great romantic spot for a lovely lunch or dinner. The service is excellent and the menu is very varied and totally fresh. I tried the crab meat au gratin, followed by the Captain Fish prepared how the chef recommends and finally the crepes nutella - all very yummy.

Stopped here for lunch on the advice of our guide, it did not disappoint. Food is delicious, catch of the day was very tasty and excellently cooked but other dishes we had all went down extremely well. Tables are well spaced and location on the river estuary is very picturesque, very friendly owner and staff. Shame it's 6000 miles from home!
