There are some cheaper options out there, no names need to be mentioned, but we saw some of those vehicles and they were plain scary. We had a 2014 jeep patriot for 6 days for just over $500 with insurance and all costs, nice clean vehicle and no mechanical issues whatsoever as we travelled all over the country. They gave us a cooler and a cell phone which we put a few minutes on at the local grocery store so it made for easy travelling. Easy check in and check out.

Service was excellent for pick up and drop off. Employees were very courteous. Vehicle was clean and in good shape. To top it off, I was called to be informed of monies that were left in the vehicle when I returned it. Your want honest, excellent service, this is it. Thanks Giles, Rina and Aimee.

Made reservations online before our trip. Flew in from San Pedro to Belize Municipal and was picked up by a friendly gentleman from Crystal Auto who drove us to the Main office to pick up our vehicle for the day. Upon arrival he went over the vehicle with us, mileage, existing damage on the car. We then went inside and met with a wonderful lady who had us sign the contract and pay. We were on our way in about 10-12mins.
The facility is nice and they have a very large selection of vehicles. The car we rented was considerably cleaner and newer looking than I had anticipated. I did get the tire insurance and windshield insurance. When you see the roads and other vehicles windshields you will see its well worth the money.
Upon returning the car the gentleman took us back to the airport for us to catch our flight.
Note: If you are only renting for the day and going inland for any tours be sure to allow yourself enough time to get back to return the car. Also let your tour guide know about your schedule so they can plan the tour accordingly. We did the ATM tour on the day we rented the car. It was a good 1.5hrs drive to Benge's in Tea Kettle. This was after two quick stops in the morning and a stop on the way back to get fuel.
We flew into Belize Municipal (flight from San Pedro was cheaper than to fly to Belize International, which Crystal Auto has an office at) which was approx. 20min drive to the Main office. Plan accordingly if fly into Municipal.
Overall great experience renting from Crystal Auto.

I highly recommend renting with Crystal Auto Rental. Their office is right at the airport, just a quick walk across the parking lot. We really appreciated the flip phone they provided. You can load minutes onto it at the grocery store on gas station. I would recommend skipping the grocery store down the street and go to the Puma gas station. The car ran great for our adventures in Belize. If you don't get cell coverage definitiely invest in a map to get around. The car return was also very easy and we really appreciated the shuttle ride to the boat taxi.

I've traveled extensively in Belize and this is the most convenient and cheapest rental car agency I've found. Vehicles are clean and in good condition. Two things: 1. do not take non 4wd off main roads as you will ruin the tires. Most roads in Belize are poor quality and have massive speed bumps, spend the extra money to get a 4wd vehicle. 2. Get the glass insurance, the roads near the airport are under seemingly permanent construction and lots of rocks get thrown up while driving on them. I'm not sure it is possible to drive near the airport without getting glass damage.
