Ocean Tides is a small (a dozen rooms) hotel located just north of 'downtown' San Pedro. While somewhat rustic, the rooms are spacious, clean, and well-maintained, with comfortable beds, air-conditioning, and a refrigerator. All of the rooms face the ocean and look down on a wood deck with a small pool and a cute little bar, the 'Lazy Pelican'. We found the deck to be a great place to hang out, take a dip in the pool, and have a drink.
Several restaurants and bars are within a short walk, and many more choices are just a few blocks further down the beach. We were initially worried that we would need to rent one of the ubiquitous golf carts to get around, but there was really not need. There are pros and cons to this location; a few blocks removed from the bustling center of San Pedro means that it is a little quieter and laid-back. You will have to walk a bit to get to the town center. The biggest con for us is that the narrow beach in front of Ocean Tides is a thoroughfare for cars/golf carts/motorcycles, and at times it can get pretty busy and noisy. I was worried that the traffic would keep us up at night, but it dies down pretty quickly once the Sun sets.

As noted, the rooms were quite nice, but we had some quibbles. The ductless air-conditioning unit was located on the back wall, outside the bathroom. When it kicked on, it was rather noisy and woke us up a few times. Water flow from the shower was quite low, because most of the water still poured out the bathtub faucet when the diverter valve was turned to send water out the shower head. We pointed this out to the office, but they did not seem terribly interested in doing much about it.
Overall, this was a very pleasant place to stay, the staff were friendly and helpful (except for the shower), and the bartender was fun. Furthermore, room rates were lower than most other comparable choices in San Pedro.More
