My husband and I stayed here for three nights based on strong reviews and while our ground floor standard room initially underwhelmed, we better appreciated the resort as time went on. Our room, though dated, had a good amount of bathroom, counter and closet space, and two comfortable beds. The garden grounds and pool areas are lovely and very well maintained. You would never think you were in the bustling downtown San Pedro area.
The hotel entrance is just steps from the Tropic Air terminal, very handy, and yet we were never bothered by the sounds of the small planes. We did, however, hear cleaning staff outside our hotel room early in the morning; our room was not that soundproof. I took a look at the Deluxe rooms on the second floor which were more updated, private and quiet -- rooms 214 or higher -- and would definitely opt for one of them in the future. The Premier room 225 is the clearly best with more windows, privacy and ocean view. With one of those deluxe rooms, I would have rated the hotel a 5.
Also, I highly recommend the Hol Chan snorkelling tour provided through the hotel dive shop and to explore other restaurants, like Wild Mango, a few hundred feet to the north on the beach.
