This is a family run organization and it shows. They obviously have skin in the game and care about your experience as a customer. There are very reasonable lunch specials, but we had a Groupon and were not able to order off of that board. It gave us an opportunity to try whatever we wanted off of the extensive menu.
I chose the Shrimp Po'Boy for $12 and was happy I did. The roll was excellent and the shrimp wonderfully crispy and just the right size for a sandwich. The decor was well done for a small strip mall space.
I attended a victory party where the food was catered by Something Fishy. Everyone enjoyed the food. The shrimp was cooked nicely and well-seasoned. The chicken was a good alternative for those who do not eat shrimp. It was strips of white meat. Rice, salad, a vegetable tray and an assortment of sauces made it easy for people to chose their favorite food. I enjoyed the hush puppies, which were just right. They had a perfect crust without being too crunchy. The inside was flavorful with corn and a hint of sweetness. They left behind business cards offering a free appetizer with entree puchase.
Two people working there, may have been the owners, super nice and attentive to tables and customers. Register person takes orders and delivers food and took mine to the wrong table and left it. When she realized it, several minutes had passed. She went over and took it from that table and brought it to me. It took the person who had my order to tell her that she hadn't touched it. What!!! She then realized she may not be doing the right thing but said "okay" and left my meal. I could have walked it up to the counter, but believed the woman as she was waiting for her co-eater to be served. I had cheese tacos but asked my two family members how their fish order was. The shrimp order was excellent but the fried fish order I was told was rubbery. Isn't that because the fish is frozen and not fresh? I did like the concept and and it did offer non-fish choices. Fresher food and better counter service is all this place needs to be successful! Oh one more thing, the owner did carrying on a loud conversation and continued it outside with obvious people he knew. Not professional to disturb customers even if it is casual dining.
Patrice and Terrance (Pat and Terry) are the owners of the family-run Something Fishy, with son Kenneth running the kitchen and daughter Jada working the counter.
Hailing from Manhattan, the proprietors desired to open a quality seafood outlet catering to the casual, come-as-you-are crowd.
We had the salmon dinner, which comes with your choice of two sides -- definitely get their House-Seasoned Steak-Fries and the Hush Puppies -- shared a market-price Lobster Roll (around $15 for 4 oz. of claw meat), the Lobster Bisque (tasty, but really need to be served much hotter, though arrival was just after they opened), and their Strawberry Cake (a must-have finish).
Portions were fair, and for those who are used to a over-filled Lobster Roll, those are only found in Maine, so don't have unrealistic expectations.
While we didn't get them (they weren't on the Groupon) the 2-for-1 fish tacos, on Taco-Tuesday looked good and were a popular choice.
Something Fishy has attracted a "regular" crowd desiring quality seafood without all the fuss and nonsense. Beer is available, and Friday nights may have you waiting, as the place tends to get busy quickly.
Pat and Terry have plans to grow the business by adding additional space to the dining area by optimizing the kitchen space with more efficient equipment.
We're folks on a budget, so spending around $53 for the meal would normally be beyond our means without the Groupon. As it was, we did have leftovers that were just as good the following day.
Definitely worth a visit, and don't forget dessert, as it was our hands-down favorite part of the meal, followed by the Lobster Bisque and Grilled Salmon.
