You can get a variety of sandwiches here, and they are pretty good. There are lots of good subs to be found here and elsewhere in DC. What sets Litteri out is the rest of the food items. For a relatively small store, there's a wide selection of Italian food items, canned, jarred, frozen and otherwise. Good bread as well. I haven't trolled the wine shelves, but you might care to. This is an interesting store, a throwback to the 1950s. Note that the sandwiches are take out only. No place to sit here.

This place has a sandwich shop in the back, and the food is speculation! The sandwiches come 6, 9, and 12 inches. They have deli salads and sides. Then they do fresh pasta and dishes to take home and cook. It's good.

They offer every Italian food product imaginable in the store. And then they have a HUGE wine selection. It's fascinating.

It's worth a visit! And the prices are fair!

Skip the trip to Litteri. Mushroom Ravioli was tasteless and marinara sauce salty. Very expensive. Skip Litteri's. Go to Harris Teeter, Wegmann's, or Whole Foods.

This is a review as much for tourist who come to DC as for people who live in the city or suburbs and want to immerse themselves into Italian food. A vast collections of pastas, cookies, sauces, canned food that otherwise one would only find in the old country, down to different types of amaretti, colatura di alici di Cetara (yes, the Italian fish sauce, the heir to the Roman garum) or cooked wheat for the perfect pastiera napoletana. Not to mention many type of olive oils from different regions of the peninsula and as just as many vinegars. On top of that, the place has probably not changed in the past 50 years, and when you get in it feels you are stepping back in time and for me, space. A place not to be missed. Great sandwiches too.

I found this deli on a "DC Must Eats" list and felt compelled to try their Italian subs. It was a little hard to find, as it is on a street of windowless industrial buildings. Stepping inside is like stepping into an Italian cuisine wonderland. They have an impressive array of Italian wines and food staples. As I headed to the back of the store, I came across a line of people who were waiting for sandwiches and/or ordering deli cuts. Although I arrived in the middle of a busy lunch hour, service was speedy! Unfortunately this is not one of those deli's with a seating area - you will need to take your meal elsewhere.

My sandwich was amazing! One of the best Italian subs I've ever eaten! (I was impressed that although it took 15-20 minutes to get back to my hotel, my sandwich did not turn into a soggy mess. It was perfect!) I cannot wait until my next visit.
