Owner description: The history of one of the oldest and highest towers in Vilnius Old Town goes back to 13th century. In the 16th century the defensive tower was converted into the Cathedral's bell tower and acquired its present appearance in the 19th century. The bell tower contains functioning bells and the earliest surviving clock mechanism in Lithuania. Come, count the steps (that are steep, narrow and impressive) and enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of Vilnius! And if you're up for something magnificent, pop by at 5 p.m. to hear the big bells toll around you!

The 52 meters high Bell Tower is one of the oldest and tallest towers in the Old Town. It offers panoramic views but the windows are covered with nets. The entrance fee is 4,50 euros.

It is a little bit of a climb, but the tower offers nice views of the city. If you want a nice arial view, I would also suggest climbing the tower at the Univeristy of Vilnius

I keep returning to this place again and again, especially at 5 PM when bells starts to ring.. it is not for everyone, since it is truly loud. But for me it is good place to meditate and watch over the city center.
As well I loved audio stops there, when different people are telling stories about the tower and bells - from tour guide in soviet times, to watch maker from medieval times.
However, stairs are quite hard to climb, so if you have trouble walking - better stay downstairs.

Even though it might seem like a great place, it's far from great experience. The interior is really nice and beautiful, but the main thing - a view from the tower is not good. Highest floor only has windows with nets that you look through. And the view itself is not amazing either, the bell tower is just not as high as it might seem. As a plus, there are floors dedicated to the history of the place and you can try ringing some bells yourself.

A much better option is the Bell Tower of St. John's Church right next to the University of Vilnius. You can get to the top by elevator if you are lazy (but the only way to know how many stairs are there is to walk them), it's much higher than the other tower, therefore, the view is better and most importantly, on top, you can walk around the tower, having unobstructed vision.
