“Beautiful small chapel”

The Chapel of St. John Sarkander
Reviewed 29 June 2018

We visited on Saturday during the Olomouc half marathon. We had a Czech audio guide so we learned about the life and martyr´s death of John Sarkander but much more can be learned in st. Venceslav cathedral. Very nice stop off the beaten path.

Thank Huskice

We want to visit this place, but due to a hot weather we were not properly dressed.. yes our mistake, we should presume that, but next to information that we cannot go in with naked shoulders should be prepared few headscarf or blankets for tourst to lend or borrow.. Guy who is sitting next to entrance hear our self-consciousness, but he do not help us, just ignore us.. normaly monks, priests, nuns and others helps to the tourist..

an interesting church. An interesting exterior with wonderful descriptive carved doors. while the main part of the church is worth inspection, what brings many people in to this former prison is the crypt where the actual rack used to torture this martyr can be seen. Good info panels in both Czech and English provide information about the saint.

this is a small below ground chapel a short walk from the town centre which is the site of saint john sarkander's martyrdom. the implement used is kept in the chapel and although unnerving it is worth experiencing this part of czech history. the chapel also contributes to the flower festival when it is very tastefully decorated for the occasion.

close to the centre. Jan pavel II. was there before more than 20years ago. Not easy for searching, you need a map, not far from the main circle.
