My husband and I had the pleasure of staying ten day at this awesome resort. Accomodation conditions were flawless : spacious and spotless room, confortable beds, a large balcony, from where we admire every day the amazing sea and a superb sunset.
The food at the restaurant was tasty and varied and in every evening they served specialities of diferent cuisine from another country.
There is Makronissos Beach, which has three bays with there beaches, one more beautiful than other. We were able to snorkeling, we saw a lot of fish. There are walls of stone covered with vegetation and look alike some reefs.
We want to return some day to this wonderful place.

I am just back having stayed a week at this hotel. To summarise my experience I would say it is underwhelming. Some of the staff can be friendly, the rooms are nice, clean and modern, the food is slightly below average and the hotel, as a whole is clean. This hotel easily has the potential to be an exemplarily place but unfortunately a number of things which I would consider money saving techniques really let this place down.

Each night the food is themed e.g Italian, Arabian, Mediterranean etc. When you arrive at the restaurant you are greeted by a waiter who shows you to a table. In my experience, depending on the waiter they would get upset if you requested to be seated inside or outside. Another waiter then takes your drinks order (make sure you get it right because you only get to order once unless you want to track down the right waiter – only some waiters can take drink orders for some bizarre reason). Once your drinks arrive you can go to the buffet. This can be a bit of a free for all with no regard from the staff or other guests to general politeness, expect to be pushed about and to actively avoid walking into people.

The food is so-so, each night there is continuous staples like pasta, potato croquettes and bread. In general there is a selection of hot meats and veg with a huge range of salad and desserts. You will definitely find something you like but it is easy to tell that the quality of the food isn’t fantastic.

To add to the atmosphere of the restaurant there is music and the general ambience is quite nice. This is largely let down by the persistent number of flies surrounding you. I’m not sure of the reason for this but it was a huge let down to the overall experience and something that could be easily fixed. Finally, the way the servers were dressed really let the dining experience down, this is nit picking but is again something simple that could make things appear much nicer. The uniform is a white polo shirt and black trousers (skirt for girls). By giving the staff a shirt/waistcoat it could totally transform the feel of the restaurant – currently it just seems like they have to wear a polo because that’s what is cheapest.

The Bar

In order to understand the bar you will need degrees in psychology, chemistry and business management. I would love to understand the thought process in creating the bar menus.

To start, if you are all inclusive or premium all inclusive you CANT get the same drinks at all bars. That would make too much sense. For example you can have a Bailey’s at the cocktail bar but not at the upstairs or Levels bar. The same applies for the range of cocktails. A cocktail at the levels bar might not be obtainable at the cocktail or pool bar. Its bizarre.

To add to the bar system, whilst there are a selection of cocktails on the menu along with straight spirits DON’T FOR THE LOVE OF GOD try and make your own cocktail out of the available drinks. I am a particular fan of white Russians, this isn’t on the menu but milk, kahula and vodka separately are. I asked if I could get those mixed together and each time I was greeted with a look from the staff like I had just taken a wee in their milkshake blender. On most occasions they would reluctantly make it but on a couple of occasions I was flat out told no. I really struggle to understand the logic here.

The other aspects that really let the bars down unnecessarily is the ambience. The cocktail bar has nice music but unfortunately a really unpleasant bar smell. There is also nowhere to sit outside at night unless you want to listen to the really terrible entertainment.

The upstairs bar isn’t much better. I really don’t know what they are trying to achieve here but the place is so dark that the menus come with torches and the music is so loud you cant chat. Its also remixed house/dance versions of popular songs. It was almost as if someone was just trying to have a laugh when designing this.

Finally, the levels bar, whilst nice the speakers are very broken giving some of the worst sound possible and no one really seemed bothered about fixing it. It’s a quiet bar but wildly intimidating if you just go for a look because the staff will stare you down until you order or leave.

However, to end the bar experience on a good note, the available cocktails and milkshakes are mostly nice.

Hotel atmosphere

The hotel atmosphere was an odd thing to judge. There is always pool beds available and the atmosphere is relaxed there is the odd moment from other guests that again make this hotel from 5 stars to 3 stars. On my visit there were three occasions where I witnessed extremely anti social behaviour from some of the guests (swearing/shouting/arguing). On one particular occasion I was met by a torrent of abuse from a young lady because I almost bumped into her in the corridor.

To add to the vibe there is an arcade room and spa. The arcade is straight out of the early 2000’s with a couple of very dated pay as you play games along with ping pong. I really don’t think this adds to the hotel and makes it feel as though it was cheap way to say there is a games room.

Other points to note

If you in anyway care about the environment/plastic pollution I would implore you not to visit. The abject plastic waste here is incredible. All the drinks are served in plastic cups, the desserts are in plastic, butter is in plastic, ice cream is in plastic, water is given in plastic bottles. The disposable attitude here is incredible and again really lets the hotel down, giving it a cheap feel.

Some aspects of the spa are available to the premium all Inclusive guests. This is only the steam room and sauna (there is a hot tub but it costs a whopping €20 to book for an hour). The sauna and steam room must be booked in advanced are only turned on for your time there. Again it just feels like another money saving technique – if the spa exists accept the operating costs and try to give the guests use of it. It was almost always empty when I visited.

At dinner times, common drink requests are poured ahead of time to save time. Whilst this saves time, again it just ruins the experience because you will then be served warm, flat beer/coke.

Finally, regarding the rooms there is no real concern for privacy. Each morning the maids would walk right on in without even knocking. Luckily for them I didn’t have my Barry Scott out but they were greeted with my hairy nipples on one occasion. One could argue I should put the do not disturb sign on but I did want my room cleaned – I would just like the 10 second warning before they come in.

It is clear there is a real prioritising to reduce costs here at the expense of the guests enjoyment. If these issues were fixed I have no doubt this would be an absolutely fantastic hotel to visit.

GREAT location...outstanding beach..almost Caribbean like soft limestone sand and shallow water...

The hotel is a package tour paradise..for families..many from Russia. People are nice, but the hotel is run in a way to handle large volumes of people, families in a most impersonal way.

The restaurant staff are jaded beyond belief. My experience with a supervisor at dinner was bordering on hostile ( from him!)..I wondered who was the customer and who was the service provider.

The Bar, if you want a nice quiet pre-dinner cocktail, was full of screaming infants and toddlers..and no one seemed bothered on the management side.

My room reeked of cigarette smoke and the internet was awful. This is 2018..and this should be a no brainer.

If you are looking for a family escape with small kids and don;t care about quality, this is the place for you...mainly because of the beach.

For my money, this place falls short on many levels.

Caveat Emptor!
