Went here for lunch last week with my family, and boy were we happy with or choice of restaurant. As out of towners, we were welcomed and loved the atmosphere of the place. I had the chicken schnitzel which was so lovely, it came with loads of chips and coleslaw. I also had a strawberry milkshake which was huge and tasted delicious! We were taken care of with staff always available for whatever we needed. We will defiantly be back when we are passing through again :)

Today we had dinner in The Highland Restaurant at The New England Motor Lodge.
The meal was magnificent in taste, the size was just right, presentation great, price is quite reasonable.
The atmosphere very warm and relaxing, no rush, just sit back and enjoy for as long as you want.
The staff were very friendly and happy to chat as they took our order.
We will definitely be heading back there very soon to try out more of the Fantastic menu that awaits.

We stayed one night on the way through to Port Macquarie. It was a central location and efficient reception for our already booked and paid accommodation. The rooms were clean and neat - bathrooms could do with a refurbishment but they were in the midst of doing just that. The restaurant onsite is large and inviting with a fireplace and bar area. The menu had some great choices. And while I have read the other reviews on meals, I found they were not great. There was something not quite right with each meal - either dry, seasoning not right or oily (especially my son's food). My son's meals were disappointing and not really reflected what was written on the menu. Even breakfast the next day was not on target. Not sure if the chef was on holidays and there was a substitute on duty. I don't expect gourmet from a country hotel but it just was not what I expected. But the atmosphere was good and really it was ok after a long drive and on a cold night.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the motel facilities and ambience of our beautiful restaurant. Everyone loves the warmth and comfort! Our renovated rooms are in high demand and the new bathrooms are amazing!

We are disappointed that your meals were not to your personal taste. Being parents ourselves, we place high importance on children's nutrition. This is why our chef prepares our kids meals with fresh ingredients such as chicken tenderloins and fresh beef mince and sneakily hidden vegetables in the bolognese. Each children's meal is offered with choice of fresh salad or steam vegetables. We can also cater for special dietary needs and just need our customers to reach out and ask. Please come and try a meal with us again and if anything isn't to your satisfaction then talk to our wait staff who will work with you to rectify any issue.

We decided to take my wife's parents out for dinner for their 60th wedding anniversary. To start with there are no clear ways of getting a wheel chair in or out of the place . We get that the people running the show are only new but please if you put on a roast dinner on a Sunday at least have staff that know what they are doing. We asked if there was any bread or rolls we could have. Have to check. Dessert had to asked. We for a selection of two, the next table was given a different selection. Wife had pork with apple sauce and veggies. Apple sauce had a strange taste. When we got home after struggling with the father in law our the door, the wife was reaching for a bucket. She was not good. And the price of the meal and dessert, couple of drinks $75 for two. A bit pricey. No we probably won't go back however with time they might improve.

We are disappointed to hear about your unhappy experience and thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. In reply to your issues raised -

Re staff member - yes you are absolutely right. We had a new team member working and still getting familiar with the menu. They tried their best despite their nerves and did so with warm hospitality and honesty about being new. Everyone has to start somewhere!

Re wheelchair access - Let’s be honest about the access - we are working with an older building that has a small ramp via the reception. It’s not ideal but it’s manageable with the help which we provide. We had pointed out the most ideal exit but you declined to take it and chose the exit with steps. Despite this our staff provided hands on assistance to you.

Re apple sauce - thanks for bringing this to our attention. Our chef prepares the sauce at the start of service with fresh local apples and cinnamon. Most people seem to love our sauce but we’ll look into what could be causing a strange flavour and aim to make it even better.

Re wife reaching for a bucket - We maintain a very high standard of cleanliness, food hygiene practices and use fresh quality ingredients for all food cooked. Whilst we are sorry to hear your wife fell ill we take heart in knowing that our food was not to blame with our other guests (us included as we love and look forward to the Sunday roast) enjoyed their meal.

The roast is $25 per person or $29 with dessert. We think this is very reasonable for a fresh cooked meal on a Sunday when there are limited alternative options other than takeaway.

We do hope you will give us another try and thank you again for your feedback.

We ate here on a Saturday for dinner. We didn't have a booking, but were seated immediately. The food was wonderful, we had chicken and also a pasta dish. Impressive for a town this size. The drink prices were good, the food was priced on the higher side. There was a pianist, who was quite good, playing in the background. Great dining experience!
