“Hiked up the peak, in late afternoon. Birds in trees, not too busy. Iconic! Deserves every accolade! Gentle uphill walk.”

The best walk ever! Take the dog and the kids, redwoods are beautiful and the paths are well maintained. Gentle incline up.

Great experience to see all of the bay at once....sunny clear days is the best but awesome views in any weather. Some great walking tracks if you are game. Road can be a bit scary to drive caution is needed but worth the view once at the top

TeMata Peak is an ideal stop to pursue the vast Plains of Hawkes Bay.You will need to drive on a narrow uphill road to get to the top but what a view once you are there. Parking is available at the top or if feeling energetic stop halfway and walk the track.
Make sure it's a fine day. Great for photos.

Very good infrastructure at the main car park and surprisingly you can still drive all the way to the top! From the top there is a perfect vies of "Te Mata" the giant of Maori folk law and it is easy to see why the locals have opposed the track going up from the winery - it cuts right through the giant's neck :o

After a long and arduous drive, we reached the peak! And it was worth the effort! Although we were there in winter with the cold and wind, it was such a gorgeous view, you would not want to miss it!
Be prepared for a long, twisting drive - take it slow and easy.
The view cannot be beat and is well worth the drive!
