As other reviewers have said, there’s not many boulders. I had a lot more in my mind but there’s probably only about a dozen. Worth a quick stroll from the cafe or DOC carpark to take a look however.

This is truly a magical place to visit despite it being very windy that day. There is a $2 fee to use the path down to the beach. Great photo moments there. The gift shop is superb and the cafe is great to relax and has excellent ocean views if you get a table near the windows. Good parking.

tip - park at cafe instead of carpark at DOC. closer to the boulders. I was surprised as I thought there were going to be more boulders. There are more up near Opononi. Otherwise neat location and some good photo opportunities

So many things to do here when you travel with a group, lots of camera's and you're blessed with dramatic scenery (puffy clouds, scattered blue skies, blues and greens of the sea). Kids taught us a tik tok thingy, we stood on boulders and away we went. If you're looking for fun, you'll find it.

These are the most fascinating rocks on a beach. There is a trick to coming though. If you want to view them for free then make sure you park in the DOC parking area. Don’t go to the cafe. At the DOC area there is a 5min walk along the sand/ beach to the rocks. Lots of opportunities to take photos.
