Description: Rata is a collaboration between internationally recognised Michelin starred & New Zealand Masterchef judge, Josh Emett and highly regarded local restaurateur, Fleur Caulton. Their company, Mayfare Limited, is fast becoming synonymous in New Zealand for creating genuine dining experiences that are contemporary and inspired. 'Uniquely Southern', Rata takes inspiration from the Southern landscapes and everything that epitomises New Zealand. The decor uses influences from the Otago scenery mixed with modern industrial elements and reclaimed & repurposed vintage items to create a uniquely contemporary and welcoming dining room. Queenstown's cooler climate lends itself to Josh's love of slow cooked dishes and robust flavours, the discipline of his Michelin star background and that of Executive Chef Chris Scott who heads up the Rata kitchen, ensures elegant well-balanced and inspired cuisine that always showcases the best of regional and seasonal produce. The wine list proudly showcases wines from the Otago region and afar with a large selection of wines by the glass to give the diners variety, and match easily with the style of food. Rata is a relaxed eating-house with a neighbourhood feel, excellent service and exceptional food. Located discreetly away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, tucked alongside heritage buildings with several dining spaces perfect for lunch, dinner and casual grazing. Rata is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy award winning and genuine Southern hospitality.

WEL I had an exceptional experience. I ordered the honey goats cheese profiteroles even tho I dislike honey. I ate one and thought the honey was too strong for me and my husband had one also. On taking the plates was asked why I had not finished them explained. My fault I don’t really like honey. They then came back surprisingly with another shot x with a tiny bit of honey on and they were divine. Have been back twice more. A Top restaurant in queenstown

We had a couple's dinner here. Came highly recommended. A bit of a mixed bag. The starter bluff oysters were superb but i guess being close to Bluff probably is a factor. The other starter was goat cheese profiteroles than just looked like tiny lonely specimens on the plate. The disappointment was the signature roast duck- only served for 2. It seemed to be an effort to de-construct a french style cassoulet and not a success. Proper cassoulet combines lots of yummy things for a reason. The actual duck comes 3 ways: sliced pieces, in a separate white bean and duck bread crumbed casserole which is very good, then as a scrawny undercooked wing sort of thing that was impossibly to saw the meat off. If you are a regular at any good Peking duck place you will be disappointed. Cheeseboard then redeemed a lot of the meal. Great local cheeses with more than just boring old cow offerings. It wioll improve and service excellent.

We had reservations about going here but decided to take someones word for it and was not disappointed at all. To start with the service was brilliant on all accounts unlike other restaurants of this standard in Queenstown, which let themselves down.

Then the food was very good as was the wine selection. Venison & Ducks dishes all our people enjoyed throughly let alone unique cocktails and NZ sake that gave this dinner a great start to the evening.

I would say based on these things, that Rata would be one of only 3 restaurants in the entire district, to be this good. The setting was lovely and relaxing and it was nicely priced to boot.

Well done the Rata team and thanks for a great final evening here in Queenstown to top of an excellent birthday week!

The food was ok , worth the price - not really ! had much better on our visit to Queenstown, highlight - the goats cheese profiteroles , blue cod for main lacked flavour . Whole experience was brought down by the arrival of a group of 12 including 6 young children - toys were brought out , noise level escalated . Not what you expect on a very anticipated visit to top end restaurant.
