We have stayed here numerous times in the past, and although the bathrooms are well past overdue for an update, the comfortable beds made up for it.
Not this time. We arrived after a late flight to a room with a really strong foul odour, it was awful! The next morning we were woken to the sound of hammers and drills, there is a multi level construction happening right next door, so intrusive that you could not have the bedroom or sitting area curtains open as the builders can see right in. The room we were in was also closest room to the very busy Papanui Road, so between the traffic and construction there was no chance of a decent sleep. What was once a great place to stay is now a noisy outdated accommodation

Clean, comfortable, spacious. Well equipped kitchen, we cooked meals for ourselves, good supermarket just a short walk up the street. Staff friendly and room cleaned during our 2 night stay. Struggling to say anything negative, but perhaps the decor isn’t fashionable and the bubbles didn’t work properly on the nice warm covered outdoor spa

Room was very dark and cramped, and stuck in a back corner. Pool looked dodgy, wifi was very sporadic (which was not okay as I had work to do). Pros - staff were friendly, and unit was basically clean.

Stayed 6 nights as we were at a conference, and motel was prebooked. Could hear the people in the room next door talking. WiFi was good - no problems, but the room we were in ...Room 4 smelt very badly of cigarette smoke. It seems to have permeated the whole room, even though we were assured the motel was smoke free!
We had to collect fresh towels a couple of times, but the beds and pillows were very good. Location good, close to Merivale.

Room tip: Make sure you don't get room 4!

Diplomat motel is run by a lovely friendly couple. I stayed in a small studio unit which was perfect for me. Really comfortable queen bed plus a single. ..where I spread out all my clothes. Small kitchen with everything you need for a glass of wine and cup of tea...real coffee and plunger too. Great shower with good pressure. Everything was tasteful..warm. .fantastic electric blanket which is necessary in Christchurch!!
