Wonderful Hummingbird coffee each morning. Comfortable beds and friendly welcome. Loved the central location and the close proximity to public transport. The hospitality was just brilliant. Thanks to Pam and Denis for making our stay in Christchurch seamless.

When we arrived we got a cup of thee with a muffin in the frontroom. We had the garden room, great view at the garden, good bed and a large bathroom. The breakfast was good, muesli, cornflakes, yogurt, bread, scrambled eggs, orange juice, coffee, thee etc. Thanks to Pam, Denis and the dog Maddy

Afternoon tea served in the front room was an unexpected treat after a long drive. The accommodation in this traditional house is warm and welcoming. Pam and Dennis made every effort to ensure our visit was a comfortable one. We had a pleasant continental breakfast served in the kitchen whilst chatting to Pam and Dennis.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an ensuite bathroom

This was our second stay at Lilac Rose and it is just as good the second time around. The downstairs bedroom with ensuite bathroom was excellent. Breakfast was divine as usual and Dennis and Pam's hospitality is quite lovely - not OTT, just warm and welcoming.

Room Tip: An ensuite room is number one requirement for us and the downstairs burgundy room fits the bill perfectly.

We stayed at Lilac Rose at the start and end of our trip to South Island. It is a lovely house with very attractive gardens on a quiet residential road. The location is really convenient - just a short drive or taxi ride from the airport but also easy to get to the centre of Christchurch. There is a regular bus service into the city from the bus stop only a few minutes walk away and there is also plenty of on-road parking by the B&B.
Denis and Pam (and Maddy the dog) were very welcoming. They gave us tea and cake when we arrived and we enjoyed Denis's cooked breakfasts. We stayed in the downstairs Garden Room which, as the name suggests, has great views of the garden. It was very light and comfortable and the next door bathroom (for our use only) was spacious and well equipped.
There is not a big range of local evening eating options but we enjoyed a nearby Indian restaurant and an Italian restaurant in Merivale about 15 minutes walk away.
Lilac Rose was a great start to our holiday and we will certainly stop here again if we come back to New Zealand.
