This hotel was spotless clean, great location, and had very nice facilities. If you’re a single person, couple or someone with older kids I’m sure it would be a great place to stay. But if you have young infant I would advise to stay elsewhere, and to read on.
We were overcome with extreme rudeness at this hotel and felt very discriminated against once the hotel staff realised we had a baby (9months old). We had spent over a week on the South Island, this was our last night before flying home. Had stayed at another hotel in Christchurch on our arrival, and had no issues there, or at any of the many other hotels we stayed at in New Zealand on our holiday. I checked in while husband and baby waited in car, baby was asleep. Once I got the keys etc and went and got them from the car, the hotel staff member ran over to our car telling me I need to come back to the office - “you have baby so you have to pay $25 extra”. We thought he was joking at first, but he rudely continued. So we followed him into the office. He proceeded to chastise me for not specifying that I had a baby (I never clarified at any of the other hotels); and that it’s this hotels policy that you must pay $25 for young infants to stay in room. When we asked why he couldn’t clarify why this was the policy. Then tried to say it’s for an extra bed. And we stated we have a porta cot, we don’t need any extra beds. He continued to argue with us, very aggressive like he thought we were trying to scam him. And then he said “ok $10 cash then”. We said if you don’t want us staying here with our baby then refund us and we will leave. Wouldn’t refund us. Let us stay. It was getting dark by this stage. But was a horrible experience.
The next day when we checked out, while we were still in the car park watching it all, he then raced over to our room, grabbing 2of the cleaners on the way to go and inspect our room. Checking obviously that we hadn’t trashed it.
Insulting and extremely rude experience. Left a bad taste in our mouth for our last night of our holiday.
