Description: George Calombaris' flagship Melbourne restaurant for MAdE Establishment has cemented itself on the global dining scene with its unique Modern Greek cuisine. In October 2006, the four directors joined together to form MAdE Establishment, and opened their first venue, The Press Club Restaurant and Bar. This began a new era for George Calombaris and cemented his place as a culinary star for his Modern Greek Cuisine - never seen before Melbourne; where modern twists to traditional Greek cuisine has put this restaurant on the global map and has diner's wanting more. The Press Club seats 38 guests in individual booths. Next door to The Press Club at 52 Flinders Street, is Press Club - Projects, George Calombaris' creative and development kitchen. This space can be booked privately for up to 8 guests and offers a completely interactive experience as the chefs experiment with new dishes to make the menu in The Press Club.

Everything I expected and more. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole 6 course tasting menu experience. The presentation, ambiance and the food were all excellent. Travelled a long way for this and was not disappointed.

The family spent Christmas lunch at The Press Club.

The Good:
* Great staff with wonderful attitude who possesssed a real service mentality and knew the menu.
* Excellent sommelier
* Innovative menu - a real twist on the classics. Started on a high with Mastiha cocktail, followed by octupus on watermelon, then saganaki with a twist and Morton Bay bugs ... sadly it didn't retain this high standard (refer The Ugly below)
* Good music playlist

The Bad:
* Ambience and decor more imapctful in the evening rather than day time lunch... which is really not an issue

The Ugly:
One thing ... the over use of seasoning/salt on 2 main dishes. The brisket was so heavily salted it was rendered almost inedible. The spatchcock was barely better, rated higher because one could remove the skin and eat the rest.

Staff offered to exchange the dishes but we were rather full and decided to move forward. The dessert did not disappoint!

When it came to pay the bill, the staff made an adjustment for these dishes - unfortuantely we left feeling underwhelmed.

Overall:
4 stars - a mixed bag for the food (3.5/5) compensated by excellent and attentive service.

Would we visit again? Not sure!

George Calombaris is one of Australia's most recognisable chefs, due largely to his role as a judge on MasterChef Australia.
George has a reputation around town as an avant-garde chef
At The Press Club, George aims to recreate the traditional Greek food inject it with a bit of modern pizzazz.
George's restaurants span from the street food style of Jimmy Grants to the award winning, fine dining experience.
Food here is creative and delicious. Every dish. This is a restaurant that you would like to come more than once.

My husband and I went and we were thrilled. The Restaurant, presentation and taste of food was amazing. The service from Chris and Terry was great. Thank you The Press Club for our wonderful lunch.

We visited the Press Club in August 2017. This is a very high end Greek restaurant. We asked for Chef's special. It was a lot of food and very tasty. Great food, great service, and great atmosphere. Perfect for business dinner.
