We stayed 1 night after Christmas and 1 night in January - we had a great stay overall both times – location was perfect for our plans (it is not technically CBD but perfect for Etihad or Docklands and there is a great free city tram (35) close by). We booked a 2 bedroom apartment with water view – you could see the city too - the room was lovely and very well equipped – all seemed very new and modern. The room for the second stay was even bigger than the first! Comfortable bed. Great facilities including 25m indoor pool, spa, sauna, gym and tennis court. The level 1 library/lounge was also nice. The rooftop BBQ area looked good (though it was in use for a private function).
Only issues with the hotel was the pool walking area. It feels cramped and is a slippery thoroughfare and quite dangerous - it seems that you have to access the gym via the pool and so the pool doesn't feel very private. Also there are no towels in the pool area at all which is annoying that you have to go back to reception to get them (particularly if you don't realise until you are already wet). Unfortunately on our second stay, we asked at reception for towels and they said they would bring them, but didn't by 90 minutes later which left us wet and waiting - we couldn't see a phone to contact reception in the pool area. This was the only service issue we had with the hotel staff, so I put it down to a one-off oversight. I am not sure about the concrete car park styling in the pool area but it is still a great facility.
I do not recommend the cafe at all. It is obviously not directly managed by the hotel but still reflects on the hotel, particularly with breakfast which is the only option for in-house guests. The café was very disorganised, staff had no idea what was going on (if you could get a hold of one) and the continental buffet (included for us) was difficult to get to due to cramped space, and was quite terrible. I understand the limited space but there was nothing appealing on it, lukewarm water for tea, no signage, no side plates, spoons, saucers or glasses provided - all useful items. When we finally got seated and sorted, the hot food actually tasted quite nice but it was all a chore and in complete contrast with our accommodation. Overall we had a lovely time at Sebel Docklands aside from the cafe.

Room Tip: Worth paying for the water/city view

Dear judegoldy,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your review, as we appreciate all feedback to ensure we are always delivering upon the best possible experience for our guests.

I’m very happy to hear that you enjoyed our very spacious 2-bedroom apartment. As you mentioned they are well equipped with everything you need for a short or longer stay, are extremely spacious, and have some amazing views overlooking the Docklands Harbour and CBD as a backdrop. The benefit of our location is that we are just a short tram ride into the heart of CBD Melbourne, but also in a more relaxing location to unwind and enjoy your Melbourne getaway.

I appreciate your feedback regarding our facilities, and do apologise for the inconvenience with not providing the towels to you in a timely manner. Our guest safety is always high priority for us, so also appreciate your comments regarding our pool area and accessing the gym, and will review with our maintenance team accordingly.

In addition, I sincerely apologise for the disappointing experience that you encountered at our partner cafe Capri. As you mention, the overall satisfaction of our guests relies on a complete experience, and can assure you I will share your feedback with cafe management, to review and improve upon standards moving forward.

Thank you again for your feedback, all the team at Sebel Melbourne Docklands look forward to hopefully having you back to stay with us in the near future.

Kind regards,

Cameron Baker

We booked a room for one night as we were going to a concert. Check in was quick and the staff were friendly. Our room was great with everything you need (except if you drink a fair bit of tea and coffee maybe bring some more milk as you only get a small amount) our apartment was super cozy and clean with ample room for the two of us. Very comfy bed and pillows too. Overall very impressed and happy with our stay. Thank you. :)

We booked one night at the Sebel to escape the ridiculous Melbourne summer heat. We got what we wanted - airconditioned comfort - but if I had a choice I don't know if I'd stay here again. The check in welcome was perfunctory; a quick word about the layout of the hotel (which was a bit of a rabbit warren) or the difference between the two lift bays would have been helpful, particularly as there was no information pamphlet in our room. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, although some noise filtered through the windows facing Aquitania Way. We probably would have been perfectly satisfied with our stay if not for a few jarring notes. First, after check in at 2pm we passed a room on our way to ours that had some room service dishes piled outside the door, waiting for collection. When we stepped out close to midnight (to see how hot it still was outside), the dishes were still there. Second, the layout of the hotel is a little unusual and you can't see from reception where the hotel cafe is located, which is around the other entrance. After we dropped our bags in our room and walked out again to explore we asked a staff member who got into the lift with us if indeed there was a cafe in the hotel. Perplexingly, she said no. Third, our bathroom looked sparklingly clean when we first arrived but on closer inspection I found a stain on the toilet seat that I thought may have been a discolouration from wear but I found I was able to wipe away. The hotel location is very handy if you want to attend events nearby, but would I stay here again? Not if I can help it.

Dear lamKP,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, as all forms of feedback are extremely important to ensure we continually maintain our high standards, and to try and exceed our customers’ expectations at all times.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience and shortfall in service regarding your bathroom, and also the room service items that were not removed as quickly as they should. To clarify for you regarding the cafe, we utilise an external partner cafe to provide a dining offering to our guests, which is located at the alternate entry point of the property. I do apologise for any inconvenience with locating the cafe.

Once again, I do genuinely appreciate you providing your feedback, and can assure you all points are being followed up with relevant hotel departments.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if I can assist in any way in the future with accommodation enquiries.

Kind regards,

Cameron Baker
