This is our first time having dinner at MKR.
We ordered 2 Nasi Kandar Special, which is the sampler of each dish that is available and we also ordered 1 Nasi Kandar with grilled chicken with sweet soy sauce. All dishes on the nasi kandar special taste so authentic, feels like eating on places where everyone had in Malaysia. Just like home.

Without doubt, this place is the only place in Melbourne that serves authentic nasi kandar. I also love their roti canai and murtabak.

Found this little place quite by accident while browsing for another restaurant in the area so decided to try it out. We had their nasi lemak and mee goreng. Best 'close to authentic' Malaysian mee goreng we have had in Melbourne so far. Prices are reasonable for the serving sizes. If you are looking for fancy decor, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to spend hours eating and drinking, this is definitely not the place for you as you need to be considerate of the fact that seating is very limited and you should just eat and go :).

The owners and staff are lovely and friendly. However, as a constructive feedback, the service process will benefit from some streamlining and improvements. Currently, the wait for food is overly long considering that when we were there for early dinner (about 5.30pm Sunday) nearly 2 weeks ago, most of the tables had the nasi kandar which consisted of precooked dishes (meaning all that was needed was to scoop the food onto plates and serve) so a couple of the tables probably could have been served a lot sooner than they actually were. Granted that the mee goreng had to be cooked to order for a couple of tables, ours included. I believe we waited well over 20 minutes for our food, and they could not manage to make the roti canai for us as they were too busy (they did tell us when we placed our order that they might not be able to make the roti, so we were ok with that as we were pre-warned). Our 2 teh tarik only came we were nearly finished with our food.

What I am trying to say is that because this place has such limited seating, more organized/faster service would mean more turnover of tables, which equals more business. We noticed that just during our wait for food that there were multiple missed customers who came in, had no seats for them, and they left. A few others were hanging around the counter for quite a while to purchase take aways, and that caused quite a bit of congestion at the counter.

But all in all, food is good. We wish them the best, and hopefully they will maintain their food standards and prices, but review and improve their service as they continue to learn and grow.

We really want to try their nasi kandar, so we will be back very soon.

Great spot for some nasi Kemal or nasi Kandar.
Very basic decor but the food is excellent and well priced for Melbourne.

Traditional Malaysian village restaurant food at its best. It is cheap and brilliant food made fresh each day. The choice is always very limited but excellent. Having been there for both take away and eat in we have never been disappointed . Friendly staff who are happy to mix different dishes to suit taste. Atmosphere is completely lacking if you want more than Laminex tables but is always busy.
