This is one of those restaurants where the more you pay the less you get to eat! Four very small pieces a salmon for $36, which didn't include vegetables. Entrees were very small also. I love brussel sprouts, so ordered them as a side, but the outer leaves were quite tough and over cooked. The waiter was pleasant and attentive. But a few hours later we were all hungry.

This was our special night out on a recent visit to Melbourne, booked (for Friday night) before we even left home, based on a friend's recommendation. We love 'Asian fusion' type food and it is superb at the Seamstress. Excellently, there is the option of small, medium or large serves, offering the option of more variety - we went for four small ones, reasoning we could order another if necessary. Moreover the service was an excellent blend of friendly and professional - but... Sadly we left with the memory of a very odd decision by a waitress, rather than the great food. After we'd finished, she told us that she'd decided to change our order for one item from small to medium, because she thought that small would be insufficient. We're always happy to take advice from staff, but in this we were given no choice - we couldn't know what size a 'normal' small portion of this course was so didn't realise what had happened. It added $11 to our bill - a small amount given the overall total, but not a small principle we felt. We had had an excellent evening and decided not to make a fuss; the amount added was a bit less that the tip we would have left, but we decided that the tip had been forfeited by that decision. We are happy to assume that it was not sharp practice by the restaurant, but a well-meaning and misguided decision by the staff member; be aware though.

Searched high and low for a restaurant to catch up with friends over dinner. Fabulous choice. Outstanding service, our waiter provided a range of suggestions for wines, followed by a question on how hungry we were. What followed was an offer to curate our meal for the evening, including catering for a piscatarian among us. The dishes were delightful, each one an amazing mix of colours and flavours. More drinks, all excellent, followed by a choice of all 3 deserts, shared by the four of us (as we couldnt make a decision). Again, each dish incredible. Aperitifs / sticky wines to finish, and a very happy group of dinners, whom will be sure to return.

Called in prior to theatre on the off chance for a table and they accommodated us because we would be out in an hour. The meal was terrific, shared dishes and the staff were just absolutely delightful and funny and helpful.

Visited Seamstress a second time, seven years later and it exceeded our expectations. The service and food is both excellent. Really, it's that good! Highly recommend the Braised Beef Short-Ribs with Pickled Beetroot Infused Cabbage. Dishes are small, medium and large share plates of Asian fusion food. Delightfully delicious and quite rich so you don't really need much. The crisp Brussel Sprout dish also a treat and works well with the Braised Beef.
