The Colours of Impressionism exhibition which is currently being held in the Art Gallery of South Australia is simply stunning.

If you have even the slightest inclination to visit, I strongly suggest that you make the effort. The quality, and number of great pieces on display from the famous Mussee D’Orsay in Paris is, at first, a little overwhelming. I expected a few “blockbuster” pieces but, after a couple of visits already, I am still trying to decide my favourite.

Works from Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Manet, Pissarro and many others make up the 65 pieces on display.

The exhibition is only visiting Adelaide while it is in Australia, and it ends at the end of July.

An outstanding Impressionist collection. A rare opportunity to witness some unique developments in the history of Impressionist Art. This is not just a simple display of paintings by the leaders of the Impressionist movement, (Manet, Monet, Renoir, Cezanne,Pissaro, Seurat, Signac and Berthe Morisot an early female artist) but curated sensitively to demonstrate the changes that took place with scientific developments in colour. This new facility allowed the artists to experiment and break free of the dominant Realist school and their dark hues. The unique display in the Gallery reflects the changes from the early use of dark colours to an extraordinary breakout into splashes of these new colours.

No words can describe the extraordinary collection. The unique curation extends the richness into a new appreciation of these Masters closely aligned with the developments in colour, courtesy of science and technology.
The Gallery is open late on the first Friday of each Month. I suggest a use of the free guided tours. Please check for a talk by the Co-curator of the Exhibition, Tony Magnusson, who was outstanding for his knowledge and does much to extend ones understanding of this great revolution in art.

I am a big fan of Impressionism and I feel lucky to see so many masterpieces from Impressionists. We spent a whole afternoon in the Gallery and lost track of time enjoying the art here.

Although I'm not an art aficionado, I was certainly impressed by the latest exhibition in the Art Gallery. The entire ground floor has been set aside to showcase the Masters in a very tasteful and meaningful way. The wall colours have been chosen to allow the paintings to speak for themselves, space has been allowed so they can be viewed appropriately. Allow several hours to take them all in.
