We spent 3.5 hours actually on the island as part of a day trip. The snorkelling is amazing but can depend a lot on the weather. We were here on a sunny calm day. I love to snorkel and my wife also loves to get in the water. Go to nudey beach and swim 100 metres left of the beach and the fish are plentiful and you will see lots of coral. This is a great way to see a part of the Great Barrier Reef while swimming off a beach base. A must do while in the Cairns region.

A beautiful place for relaxing not much else to do for anyone not wanting to dive and snorkel. I had a lovely trip on the reef. Food disappointing on the boat.

I was very surprised how amazing Fitzroy island is. Bring your thongs as the beach is mostly coral and can be uncomfortable on your bare skin. Nuddies beach is the best, plenty of shade and more sand. Snorkelling was easy and plenty of fish close by.
Should have booked a night accommodation to enjoy the trip more.

Very efficient ferry service to the island, but once the boats disgorge hundreds of day visitors, you face long queues for the loos with only 3 cubicles available and no changing areas, so the loos are taken up with people changing in them. Absolutely ridiculous situation at such a popular place for Day trippers!
Apparently the Council are looking into it! May I suggest ASAP!
The island is pristine and even if the fringing reef is less than ideal, the amazing marine life makes up for it.
Walk to Nudey Beach could be challenging for those who are not so fit or able to climb steps and rock hop a bit, but the rainforest is cool and a delight to walk through. Good walking sandals recommended, be careful in thongs.
Safe swimming beaches and crystal clear water.
Please address the lack of toilets and change areas for day trippers.

A fairly unspoiled island. Plenty of walks and swimming. Walk to the summit is quite taxing and back down via the lighthouse steep. Rewarding to do though. Walk across to Nudey Beach is over rocks too. Lovely visit
