Description: Yamagen, a champion of the Gold Coast dining scene for over 30 years, has had a major facelift. Following a complete redesign by internationally renowned designer, Nic Graham, Yamagen is now bringing boisterous welcomes, smoking kushiyaki grills and the electric vibe of downtown Toyko to Surfers Paradise from 28 July 2017. Blending old school kitchen samurai skills with new school chef invention, Yamagen reinvents a traditional Japanese izakaya with a stylish and innovative twist. Spanning three unique spaces (the bar, table-seki and sushi counter) Yamagen’s culinary journey is crafted by chefs Yoshihiro Yamazaki, Mitsuo Yoshino, Kei Sato and Shintaro Kosugi. Offering a long list of craft beers, top-shelf sake, Japanese whiskies and cutting-edge cocktails, like the Utsumi Sour (Tanqueray gin, peach liqueur, aomomo peach, lemon) and the Dragon Ball (shochu, pomegranate liqueur, yuzu, lime, eggwhite) the bar is the perfect place for the thirsty to start and finish their evening. Seating up to 76 guests and serving dishes such as Sashimi Tacos and Master Kobe Wagyu MS9+ straight from the kushiyaki grill, table-seki is the restaurant’s main dining area and the best place to take advantage of the full Yamagen experience. With a limited capacity (15 guests), the sushi counter is Yamagen’s exclusive dining space. Here, guests experience an authentic omakase – a stream of market fresh sashimi and sushi, as well as delicate share plates, like Yellowfin Tuna Tartare – expertly selected by the chef. Regardless of where you start or finish, Yamagen embodies true Japanese omote-nashi - the art of hospitality. It’s all about exceptional food, an electric atmosphere and an interactive dining experience. This is stylish and innovative izakaya dining that will transport you to the vibrant back alleys of Tokyo… so get ready for the hustle and bustle.

Service and savoury dishes were fabulous. Presentation was equally fabulous.
Dessert- well it was disappointing not to see the Caramel Fondant we were waiting to order has been taken off the menu. Here we were raving to our guests how much they are going to adore this dessert, and its gone.
So we thought the Caramel Doughnuts was our choice for end our already 5 wonderful dishes devoured with delight.
What a mistake, the Caramel was cold and so “not special”, the doughnut had adry stale texture and also cold. Not in the league of the other meals we ate. No one ate it.

We had a fabulous night here. We had the tasting menu and it was excellent. The place was buzzing, in a positive way, and the service was perfect for the occasion (group of friends out enjoying ourselves). They made changes to accommodate the fussy members of our group, did it smoothly and without fanfare. The pace was stepped up and then slowed again to suit us. The food was delicious but the service is what really made the night for us.

The food here was amazing. Small portions for the mains but if you order with rice then it is ok. The flavors were great and the staff were very friendly. A good fancy dinner for our last night of our holiday

They said it was the best in Brisbane and it didn’t disappoint. Superb service always helps but quality of food was outstanding. We had the set menu which was plenty and good variation. Each course had a special, but not over powering taste to the meat. Delicious

Hey Peter T,

Thanks for loving on us here at Yamagen.

Best in Brisbane is a big title and we will happily accept that blushing on the inside.

So glad to see you enjoyed your omakase experience, its our chefs favourite dishes that certainly are not your typical "whats cheap" menus chucked together!

Hope you have you join us again.

Recently visited Yamagen Japanese Restaurant in Surfers Paradise for a casual dinner with friends. The place was buzzing and friendly staff, great service and even better food made for an Awesome night. Located at the North end of the Gold Coast it's away from the hustle and bustle but still has a great atmosphere. A great range of food and drinks magnificently prepared and served with a smile made for a memorable evening. If you like Japanese food and a vibrant atmosphere Yamagen is well worth a visit, cheers. :-)
