Was very surprised to find out after dining there that this place has a one hat rating. Perhaps I am rating this establishment too low as we had not tried any of its speciality dishes. We had been looking for a Japanese restaurant (though not a Sushi train) to satisfy a craving for sashimi and fell upon Sake by accident. My disappointment was that the 18 pieces on the sashimi platter were rather small with the tiniest amount of pickled ginger. Even a second platter would not have satisfied my craving. So instead I had a dish of chicken Karaage which was tasty. The service was prompt and efficient. There is a nice open bench seating area overlooking the river which may be a suitable alternative to a table seating.

Sushi is great and delicious. The steamed prawn dumplings looked interesting but gets cold quickly and wasn’t chilli hot despite it to be ‘chilli ponzu’. The disappointment was the service.... it’s had to get service but yet many staff standing around folding napkins and talking to each other. One female staff was friendly but others were a bit pretentious. Not sure if we’ll be back.

Sake is situated in the Eagle Street Pier with many other upmarket restaurants. It is contemporary with a bar, table dining as well as dining looking in at the kitchen. It feels authentic and there is a large selection of Japanese food and beverages. Prices are fairly high. The service was excellent and our waitress was very attentive and had good knowledge of the dishes. Most of the dishes are fairly modest in size and so we had a selection of starters almost like a Tapas. The food was of a good quality with some real interesting items.
Overall this was a great Japanese restaurant but prices are fairly high and serves modest in size. The tables looking in to the kitchen are on a large bench and may not be to everyone’s liking. Ask if you want a quiet table.

Decided to come here to celebrate the hubby's 40th, as the menu had barramundi, kingfish, toothfish, and yellow fin tuna - all the fish that my husband loves, and the dining experience definitely didn't disappoint! For entrees we had the popcorn shrimp, karage chicken, and truffle whitesoy snapper. The shrimp was beautiful, and the miso sauce that came with the chicken was heavenly. The snapper was lovely as well, but a bit too fishy for my palate. For mains we had the seared yellow fin tuna, and caramelised miso toothfish, and broccolini. The toothfish was divine - cooked perfectly, with a crispy skin and firm, sweet flesh. The tuna was also delicious - slightly seared and paired with a beautiful salad. The broccolini was probably the best I've had - charred and dressed with an amazing sauce! For dessert we had the Japanese Saint-Honore and Nihon Nemesis. Both were gorgeous and the flavours were all perfectly balanced. Overall, the food was wonderful and the service was good as well. Highly recommended if you're looking for a great dining experience for a special occasion.
