Admission to this museum is included in admission to the Chateau at Chantilly. There are stables with between 8-12 live horses. You cannot touch or feed them, but they are beautiful. There are also a few extra exhibits that talk about horses. The dressage shows are held at 11:30 and 14:30 daily, and have free admission with the museum. The show takes around 30 minutes and consists of a dressage show of one horse and a show with two ponies. The dressage itself was not very impressive if you are coming from an equestrian background, but it is entertaining, and the ponies especially are very cute. The show is commentated in French, but even for a non French speaker, it was fun to watch. Definitely try to catch a show if you go to the museum. Aside from the show we spent about 20 minutes in the museum.

The museum is also the site of a dynamite equestrian show that is like a lovely horse ballet, augmented by acrobats. Even had trained donkeys. Really worth it, and the museum is nice too if you have an interest in horses.

I’m not a horse lover but did quite enjoy walking around the stables and seeing the horses. The museum is interesting even if you don’t love horses, as is the architecture of the building which is amazing. We went for the free thirty minute dressage show - and whilst I can admire the skill of the training - the commentary was all in French so impossible to follow!

We took a day trip from Paris to Chantilly as a surprise for my horse obsessed daughter. Needless to say it was a big hit with her. First, the castle is amazing and there are horses to see as soon as you walk in. The museum part of it is small but interesting. The cafe had a great video of horses running and we stayed awhile to watch it. We got to see several of the riders warming up their dressage horses in the outside ring which for us was a real treat. The performance of the horses including the donkeys and mini horses was a lot of fun and well worth it.

The grand royal stables “Grandes Écuries” are larger than many chateaus: they house the horse museum, stables and a horse show.

The museum will mainly appeal to horse enthusiasts. The show is interesting for most people.

Get a combo ticket with the castle and show up 10 minutes before the show to get a good seat.
