“Excelent bird watching, horrible road.”

Great place to watch birds. Even if you don't care that much about birds, like me, it's amazing to look at the puffins up close. If you stick your head over the edge of the cliff, you can see the birds only meters away, and they don't get scared by you. However, do that lying flat on your stomack. The last part of the road out there, some 37 km, is awfull with plenty of potholes, but exciting with big boulders on the inside and high drops on the outside.

We visited the cliffs about 8 pm on 26 th June 2018. The experience was incredible. The road to get there was awful- potholes, mud, gravel, sheer drops, windy, narrow and more potholes. It can be done in a normal car, but take it slowly. It took about an hour from Patreksfjordur with someone who drives as if he is on a rally!!
Once there the puffins were all there, right near the light house, about 10m from the car park. They are so cute and are not afraid of humans. We were about a metre away and took 150 photos in an hour. It is windy and we had sun, no rain. But it is cold so rug up. It is one of the best wildlife experiences to do in the world.

If you aren't interested in birds, you can skip this review. We drove for 2 hours to get here from our ship. It is a rough road in places and we would not have found it without a guide. We spent a couple of hours standing at the top of the cliff looking down and across at hundreds of birds nesting on the cliff face. The puffins were posing and glowed in the sunlight (we were lucky with the weather). The other birds were more active and rowdy. It was a great morning.

Visited June 2nd around 830pm. Excellent time to visit and sun is golden and many puffins have returned to the cliffs to roost.

Wanted to post mainly to say that I was able to drive here in a 2wd hatchback without significant concern. Drive a bit slower and you should be able to avoid all major potholes. Drive really slow at the parts where the potholes are unavoidable but that is the exception not the rule.

If you drive the other parts of the westfyords with gravel roads then you will already know what the driving is like. Not fun to drive on but definitely doable. Wouldn't miss it if you are a wildlife fan!

It is very rural so bring snacks and water. I loved seeing Puffin and the views were beautiful. Wear waterproof shoes...it was just gorgeous and being on the westernmost point of Europe was fun!
