Pleasant staff upon our arrival. Ordered 2 childs portions of the Sunday roast. Well : the beef was rare (not to our liking). Yes, we forgot to ask for it to be well-done but we weren't asked how we like it in the first place. Came with runny gravy, undercooked onion and undercooked collection of garlic. Cabbage strips were undercooked and it wasn't a slice of beef or 2, more like a small beef loin. Although the Yorkshire pudding was good it didn't appear home-made. The pieces of courgette were about the best bit with the Yorkshire pudding. Asked for a discount due to the meal being unsatisfactory. The pleasantness from the staff then changed ! Got a small 'staff discount ' and the service charge was dropped. Didn't even cover the cost of a pint ! Needless to say we won't be going back. Didn't bother with the pudding menu. I pose the question as this: how, bearing in mind we had the child's portion, would a child be expected to eat what was served ? Shame about the food. The pub itself had a warm and welcoming feeling. Hi Paul,
We do apologise that your experience was unsatisfactory. In regards to the onglet - we recommend it to be served med-rare, however, we will take steps to ensure that our Front of house staff are asking customers how they would like it cooked in the future. Our Yorkshire puddings are always handmade and are a signature element to our roasts. Thanks, Livvie

Great place to eat, food good staff friendly and local people welcoming. We visited whilst staying over night at Padworth and joined in the monthly quiz which was challenging but enjoyable.

Let's start with some positives. The staff are really lovely and the lady who seemed in charge at the entrance was really enthusiastic and full of energy, sooo fast on her feet, a credit to the pub! The barman looked like he knew his stuff too! The loos are modern but could do with regular checks and cleans on a busy day. The service was very slow but it was a busy lunch time service so we made allowances for that. The quality of the food was inconsistent though, sadly. We weren't fond of the coating on the squid and the haloumi cheese was really salty so the starters were just OK. The roast pork and the vegetables were really nice, the gravy tasted really nice too if a little thin perhaps. The presentation for the roasts was sloppy with gravy not being wiped off the plates and a Yorkshire pudding was missing from our second roast (we did get it when we asked and our waitress did apologise). The chicken nuggets weren't good, they were made from fresh chicken but some were tiny, some really big, they had no shape and they did not taste great. I hate to say it but frozen nuggets would have been better. The ham, egg and chips were spot on and the home made chips looked and tasted really good. The chocolate fondant should have been soft and melting in the middle but it wasn't, it was rock solid. The Eton Mess was simply inedible, it was a plate of cream with some gooey and sticky meringue (hard to spot the meringue as there was so little of it and it was not pleasant to eat at all) and the presentation was not great either. When asked if we enjoyed our mains, we pointed out to the waitress that the chicken nuggets weren't great and nobody asked if we enjoyed our deserts. It is a shame that the chicken nuggets weren't taken off the bill as restaurants ask for customers to give feedback while they are there and that is exactly what we did...
