Something of a rare species these days, the Isaak Walton is a genuine village pub which I encountered when walking on the South Downs. A friendly welcome from staff and locals, well kept local ale and simple, keenly priced food all contributed to a very enjoyable lunchtime experience.

Saturday lunch in January with walkers and cyclists peopling the local area one expected more than one other solitary diner. Whilst the young lady serving was very pleasant the food was very lack lustre. Two sea bass were presented and both were exceptionally dry and bland as if they had been pan fried more than once. Alas they were the last in the kitchen.
Dauphinois potatoes placed in a ramekin looked and tasted univiting,
A goat's cheese flan served exceptionally hot was also very dry.
We opted not to select any further food from the extensive menu and on paying were given a 10% discount as it was January.

We are concerned that our review differs immensely from others in respect of the property.
