Prices are good value, considering your ticket lasts for a year. Entertainment was great, with lots to see and very convincing sites, showcasing history effectively. Lots to learn, and great for all ages. However, the food was a bit too simple and boring.

A group of 15 visited Beamish Museum today (kids aged between 6 and 15). We booked ahead as a group which made the trip around £10 each which was really good value. If we had to pay full price, I think my rating would have been a little lower...

Overall a good day out but I was disappointed that there were very few guides visible, a few were situated in the various buildings but only a handful actually engaged with us and because of this, there was very little information or background given as to the location we were in which was a real shame and made the visit to a “historical site” underwhelming and those who did speak were not very enthusiastic e.g. main reception staff were really grumpy!

The town was great, but again aside from the visitors walking around there were very few people in costume which was a shame as it would have really added to the atmosphere.

Given its the summer holidays, I would have thought it was a great time to really show off the separate areas but 3/5 of them were literally just building with no historical info explaining what life was like again, think this was a real missed opportunity.

Recommend taking your own food. There are only a few coffee outlets and the range of food is very limited. (The only main food shop was a Fish and chip shop and the line was huge).

So my advice: it’s essential to visit when you are guaranteed good weather, be prepared to walk a lot which is fine if it’s not raining and take your own food.

I loved working as part of the team at beamish, they are the most fantastic people and work very hard to make the whole experience as authentic as possible, they were also kind enough to allow me to visit the museum itself which I enjoyed very much the museum staff are very conscientious and are very knowledgeable of there surroundings, well worth the visit keep up the good work.

Arrived at dinner time and the queue was out the door. If you book the tickets online then you can beat the queues. It was £11 for a child and £19 for an adult. The tickets are valid for a year though so you can visit again for free.
The whole site and day overall was brilliant but I will write about the individual bits and the pros and cons.
The different sections are spread out over quite a vast area. There are busses and trans running between each section but as it was so busy the queues were so long so we just walked, sometimes quite far.
There’s a lot to see, an old school, a mine, a dark, lots of little old houses you can go in.
I wasn’t impressed with the farm area, it was very smelly which I get is down to it being a farm but it wasn’t very clean or well kept and the animals were in the smallest of pens and it almost seemed a little cruel.
Our favourite part was the old town, really loved that. Lots of old shops, a bakery, an old sweet shop, houses you can go in etc. Really nice.
Was disappointed to see you had to pay for the fair ground rides, after paying to get in it a shame to charge people for the fairground, like paying to get in a theme park then paying for the rides! It would be good if there was more interaction, there’s a lot of staff dressed in costume but they didn’t really get involved with the visitors.
Overall a really good day, the long team queues and the paying for the fairground was annoying but would still recommend. A great family day out for all the family
