This church dates back to the 14th century. By Italian standards it is simple, yet has a lot of paintings and statues. It is a lovely place to visit while in Volterra.

Worth visiting this cathedral. Take your time to look everywhere. Art is sometimes hidden in separate parts of the building.

This church is at one end of the town, a bit off the more popular tourist sights. An impressive church but be wowed by the chapel to the right of the alter. The frescoes in that chapel are stunning and made the walk to the church more than worthwhile. And see also the mini gem of the church of San Lino just before San Francesco. Most people pass it by but it also is well-worth a five minute visit.

It would be easy to overlook this cathedral as compared with the grand facades we have seen in other parts of Italy it is quite modest. Inside is another story. Again our eyes were drawn upwards to frescos and art works.
