We stayed for just one night during our anniversary trip through Tuscany. We didn't know beforehand that the hotel held a wonderful history including being the honeymoon venue for Princess Grace & Prince Renier of Monaco many years ago. With wonderfully large and indulgent rooms and public areas we just loved the old world atmosphere and being right in the heart of the town, very easy to take a stroll or find many restaurants very nearby. A really lovely experience.

Spent one night here as our planned hotel was overbooked. We wer told it was 5star but although having a fabulous staircase and entrance hall, the bedrooms were very shabby and in need of modernisation. Plumbing dilapidated - tap fell off (hot water) and emergency plumber had to be called to called out and room vacated.
Breakfast was very good but should have been.

We stayed at this hotel in the belief that it was bone fide 5 Star hotel, well I’m sorry it fell short of this very high rating and really only deserves 4 star. Our first room was not in the main hotel building and was adjacent to the lift shaft. This shouldn’t have been a problem being only on the first floor however we could hear the lift clearly through the structure of the building, probably not very well insulated due to the age of the hotel.

The hotel itself is a grand old example of a time gone by and is in need of ongoing maintenance to rectify the plethora of light bulbs that have ceased to work, the parquet flooring that has parted company with the floor and damp and flacking paintwork.

What has kept up with the times are the prices at the poolside bar 7 Euros for a small bottle of Coke, I ask you is that reasonable? Needless to say I found a nearby bar and bought wine for my room at the local supermarket.

Breakfast was something else, turkey bacon and sloppy scrambled egg every day without exception. Surely somebody can cook a fried egg or omelette in Tuscany!! No toaster and luke warm water to make your own tea. If you chose coffee this was made for you and brought to your table, albeit you may have left your table by the time it arrives.

I did provide feedback online to the hotel whilst I was there however no follow up was forthcoming.

We had such a lovely stay, the rooms are slightly dated but that adds the to character and ambiance of the whole experience. Manfredi & Jago were amazing and even when the sun wasn't shinning they made our days such fun and personable. It was such a lovely change to have people who loved their work and really cared about their job! I would totally recommend this place and the people! We will be returning.

If you come here expecting 5* like we did.. You'll be disappointed. It's more of a 3*. The outside of the building is amazing. Inside is tired and old fashioned and in need of a facelift. When we arrived there was nobody there. On reception they said that people were at lunch. It felt like a ghost town. The pool area is ok. Drinks and food is expensive - I think they are missing a trick. We came back one night and a man was playing piano to one couple in the whole bar/restaurant. It just felt depressing. This hotel could be so much more. On a positive note, the breakfast buffet is good and we enjoyed the spa.
