This was a awful and expensive experience. All the negative reviews are right. Don’t be tempted!

Boat is OVERCROWDED TO THE MAX very poor outside space. Lots of people didn’t have a seat and spent ages wondering around the boat aimlessly. It was really uncomfortable. People are really rude and barge and push to struggle to get a glimpse of the volcano. Getting on at the ports is unorganised and so much rude pushing and shoving. Not a nice experience.

Very little information given about the islands on the tour. It’s just an overpriced ferry really, that lingers around the volcano for about an hour.

The islands you are taken to (Panea and Stromboli) themselves are quite boring with not much to do apart from eat or drink in the time you have.

To top it off the volcano did one thing (I know you can’t expect nature to perform) and the boat was turned to the other side so we couldn’t see! (Due to the boat design only half of the boat can see the volcano at any one time). The boat left the volcano when it was around 9-9.30, it still wasn’t very dark. Don’t expect those amazing lava shots on the advertising pictures. More of a gentle smoke puffing.

If you must do this tour, GO WITH NAVSAL - cheaper, lots of outside space (the whole top deck), so the boat doesn’t need to turn. They also appeared to be much less crowded!!

Having spent a week touring Sicily sites by bus this was a nice alternative on a "day off".

We were picked at hotel stops and taken to a harbour on the north coast. The Italian guide filled in facts along the route in 4 different languages (Italian, English, German, French).

Onboard the boat we were taken past some of the spectacular rock formations that can only be seen from a boat, guiding via the boat-lautspeaker system again in multiple languages. Easy to understand and a good mix of facts and myths.

On Lipari we had a couple of hours to spend on our own; enough time to go for a walk or take a taxi tour round the island (fixed price per person and the taxi had to be full; otherwise the driver would not go).

Next stop Vulcano, in size and colour very different from Lipari. You can pay to take a dip in the mud pool (stink like rotten egg but is said to be very health), or you can take a swim from the black sand shore.

Walking bare feet on the black sand in shallow water along the coast was very nice and relaxing and you have feet as soft as baby's feet after.

Being only two going together and not insisting on sitting together it was not a problem that there was a school excursion and the boat full, the kids around 12 were eager to practice English and squized tight to make room

We took the Tarnav tour to Strmboli and Panarea on a beautful April day. The ship is well built for its purpose.
On Panarea I highly recommend to go to the prehistoric site. As it s a 40 min walk eac way and you have 2 hours on the island best way is to take the electric car taxi. If thete are none in the harbour, call or ask the lady in the minimarket to do it for you. They drop you in a point when you need to walk for 10 min. Part f it is stairs up hill but it is short.
They stop at some beautifl spots on the way and then you have time in Stromboli.
Just before sunset you go to the place when stromboli activty (fire and if you are lucky lava going down the mountain to the sea).
You reach Milazzo around 2200.

We were at the cruise to Panera and Stromboli, the stops at the harbors were to long but the end of the day was the biggest disappointment after all the people waited to see the show of the mountain after dark nothing happened and suddenly the boat start to rush back, all the rest of the ships stayed there , they told us that the mountain wouldn’t show his Magic’s but half an hour earlier they told us to look.
Shame of you!

We did the Vulcano, Panarea and Stromboli trip on the 16th. It was pretty full. They had a good system with wristbands and a board telling you when the next pick up / departure was. We didn't know we would be on one ship (some standing) with several groups which then split up, so visited Lipari twice to drop off / pick up, but that didn't take too long, just added to the length of the day. Vulcano coach tour to see the amazing views was great, highly recommended. Panarea was ok on foot, as was Stromboli. The crew had a problem getting us off and picking up as there was a 8-10' swell. But they took care and helped us on or off. We all saw Stromboli after dark, as they spent over 40 minutes milling back and forwards for both sides to see. We were impressed. Oh - they DO have toilets on both boats we were on and did offer spaghetti in the evening for E10 but we didn't see anyone eat and hasd brought sufficient for the day. They had commentary in Italian, Englsh and French, a little hard to hear due to engine and people chatting.
