Great for family stay. Arranged airport transfer with hotel prior to travelling. Reasonable rate - very safe and steady driver at start and end of cruise.
Hotel was old Italy - very retro and original decor, really nice. Staff really helpful - and sent lost mobile phone to the port for us. Room had 3 bedrooms - ideal for 5 and located next to a great pizza place where we got takeaway.
End of cruise - took the shuttle back to hotel who kindly let us store luggage for the day as our flight was rescheduled for later. Had another afternoon in Civitaveccia, a really nice place. Keep walking downtown (15mins) and you will find the coast which is great and not crowded with some shops and restaurants along the front. We paddled but needed water shoes as it's rocky.
Would use Hotel Traiano again - tried and tested. Perfect for our pre cruise.

50 odd year old Scottish/Australians (of 29 years).

Veteran travellers

One night stop before cruise

Cold, unfriendly owner and staff

Our room smelled of chemicals. Our eyes were burning - literally streaming!. Manager said he didn't know what we were talking about despite other hotel guests commenting on the smell around our room.

Moved to another room. Still smelled, but not as bad. However, bad mould around room ceiling and window (have photos to prove it if needed).

No tea/coffee making facilities as advertised. When we asked the manager why the kettle in our room didn't plug into any power points in our room he said he didn't know why??? Never came back to solve problem.

Asked for map of area to go out and eat. Told no can do - photocopier not working.

Breakfast ordinary.

Air conditioning non functioning

Room ordinary.

NOT recommended!!!!!!!!!

Cold go on but won't - worst place ever!!

We stayed the night before our cruise. Hotel room was spacious and quiet. We had two twins beds and another single. Beds were very hard. There was a wrap around balcony. Hotel is not fancy but staff are very friendly and check in was quick and efficient. Breakfast was included in price and free shuttle to port every 1/2 hour.Breakfast had a wide variety of hot eggs, bacon etc and cold croissants, toast, yogurt and cereals.Elevator was small. We would stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Traiano. The hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was very friendly.

The hotel is a few blocks away from the boardwalk. It’s an easy walk and there are a few places to eat if you prefer staying closer to the hotel.

The breakfast was good. It had warm items as well as fruit, pastries and cereals.

The only thing we were disappointed with was the shower. After traveling for almost 24 hours, it was disappointing to not have any hot water. However by late afternoon the water was hot.

The hotel charges a fee to pick you up from the hotel. For a family of four it was a better option for us. The driver was friendly and drove well.
They do provide a free ride to the port.

I would definitely stay here again however please keep in mind, this is an older hotel. If you are looking for contemporary or flashy, then this may not be your top pick.

We chose the Hotel Traiano for a night before our cruise departure, based on location, price, and the offer of a free shuttle to the cruise terminal. The hotel delivered nicely in all respects. The only hiccup is that when we entered "our" room we were greeted by an annoyed man in his underwear! Back at the front desk the manager insisted that was the right room for us and made a call to the couple in the room to insist they were in the wrong room (but how did they have the key?). Thankfully he couldn't talk them into moving and ultimately gave us a nice suite. No real issue, pretty comical actually.

Our suite was spacious, clean but furnished in sort of a 60's style but it served the purpose. Unfortunately it had a very strong cleaning chemical odor which made us open up all the windows and turn the fans on.

A nice but simple breakfast was provided in the morning, before our courteous and timely shuttle to the cruise terminal.

There may be more elegant hotels in Civitavecchia but the Traiano served well for a pre-cruise overnight.
