My wife, 7 year old son and I stayed at this hotel as part of a Crystal Ski package holiday to Bardonecchia in the first week of the 2017-18 ski season and arrived on Christmas Eve.

I have skied for 41 years in many places and you get used to hotels and dining that vary between reasonably good and downright poor.....however, this was without doubt the best hotel I have stayed at overall. A lot of the guests were Italians which gave us an authentic holiday experience but no doubt also keeps standards high as they love their food.

It is quite traditional in style with lots of wood and stone and tiled flooring, not plush but functional, welcoming and with lots of space in communal areas. The windows are large and give nice views outside from the lounge and dining room. I like this kind of more intimate hotel, where you soon get to know everyone.

Our room was comfortable and clean....again typical in style for a ski hotel but definitely roomier and better than average. The bathroom was large and had a good shower that always had hot water. An opening window was great to control temperature, ventilation and allow humidity to escape. Beds were ok rather than great. Storage appeared limited on first acquaintance but actually there were quite a few drawers and shelves that swallowed our gear.

It says something when the only issues we considered to be negative, were that noise travelled very easily between rooms (the open closets seem to back onto each other between rooms) but some people were rather inconsiderate at times, which is no fault of the hotel. Also it was very dark in the open closet, so a torch was often needed to find stuff on the shelves or in the drawers. Both very much first world problems!

So all the basics made it a great hotel anyway but what made it especially outstanding was the dining. The food here was excellent and better than any other ski holiday I have had in all those years. In the evening there was always a nicely presented buffet with a variety of nice food including salads, roulades, cheeses, fish, potato dishes, pasta dishes, pizza and breads etc. Then there was a 3 course meal with a choice of starter, main and desert. I am vegetarian and of course could not make the best of the various fish and meat options, but the staff always made me a dish or asked me what I wanted. The pasta was fresh and locally sourced....lovely. You don't go hungry here and eating is a real pleasure, not just a need. The maitre D was fantastic and always helpful and friendly and we had excellent table wine for 10 euro per bottle. The overall dining experience was more akin to a good cruise than the average ski holiday and was a real pleasure for us.

On Christmas Eve we were treated to a 7 course gala dinner, which set the standard for the week ahead.

The staff were very helpful and friendly all over the hotel. My wife made use of the hot tubs after skiing on most days and really enjoyed it.

The hotel is about as conveniently located for the skiing as possible, being close to the main Campo Smith lift hub and ski school. It isn't door-step skiing but appears to be the closest hotel to the slopes apart from the rather characterless accommodations of the Olympic edifice that contains rooms, bars and other facilities. The best way to access the ski area is to turn left from the hotel, walk about 100 metres to a small roundabout, turn right across the river bridge and walk past a restaurant to the ski area. In the Crystal info it states this is a 2 minute walk, which was probably done in trainers on a dry day!....realistically in ski gear and on snowy/icy surfaces it is a 5 minute walk, but not arduous at all and serves as a little warm up before starting to ski.

The ski room is internal with no direct outside access (good for security) and easily dried our gear overnight.

Overall I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel and would like to thank the staff for a wonderful stay.

We had such a good time here in 2016 that we decided to go back to the same hotel earlier this month.
We were slightly disappointed on arrival to find that the wonderful staff who had been there last year had moved on, but the staff who looked after us on this visit were just as good - creating a really superb family atmosphere in the hotel.
Katya, Irina, Andrea, and Anca were always there (seemingly 24/7) with a smile - not to forget the cleaning staff who were ever helpful and friendly.
As for the food - where to begin.
Each night we had a fantastic 4-course dinner - a wonderful antipasti selection, pasta or soup (always piping hot and delicious), a meat or fish course, and a dessert. On other Crystal packages we have been uninspired by the food and chosen to eat out on one or two nights; not in Ca Fiore - we were there every night. So, although we never saw them, a huge thank you to the magicians in the kitchen.
Breakfast was just as impressive, and the perfect way to set yourself up for the slopes.
We were in room 209 - a lovely room although a very small shower cubicle that became increasingly difficult to squeeze into as the week wore on - so good were the dinners.
The spa area - sauna and hot tubs - is basic but a wonderful way to relax after a day on the mountain.
Once again, we were amazed at how many people were returning visitors - and I can now add our names proudly to that list.
We'll be back!

Room Tip: Room 209 was great.

Very friendly staff especially Irina. Close to slopes though town quite a way. I think they are going for the faded rustic look, trouble with that is the word faded. Rooms reasonable size but a bit dark. Bathroom ok. Bed and pillows like concrete. No sleep the first night and we requested a change of mattress next morning which was a little better same with pillows. Rooms kept very clean.
Evening meal was very good although I did object having to pay for coffee with the meal. Also it is time to get tea/coffee making in the room. Boiling water and milk available at reception but a pain late at night and first thing in the morning. If they made the tea you paid. Would we go again. No.

Room Tip: Wifi in rooms poor but good in reception area.

We stayed here 26/02/17 for one week.
We have skied in this area for a few years and this has by far been the best hotel.
The staff are friendly and the hotel itself is cosy and comfortable. The room we occupied (104) is small but adequate. The only criticism being that we had a small bath with shower attachment which was not the best.
The food is truly exceptional. Breakfast is plentiful but it's really the evening meal which takes this hotel from good to fabulous.
You choose your starter and main at breakfast from a choice of three options. At dinner you have a salad then your choices. At all times was the food tremendous.
The prices for drink were very reasonable. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean. As per other reviews the walls are paper thin. Don't suppose they can do much to remedy this though.
Campo Smith is located 100 metres away. The skiing when we were here was ok. A bit slushy but that can't be helped.
Take the 10 min ski bus to Jaffreau, you won't regret.
Tremendous wide slopes, quiet and full of lovely snow.
We would definitely return here and can recommend this hotel.
The town is industrial and not as quaint as Sauze Doux with fewer bars etc but the hotel itself makes up for this.
Really lovely stay here.
