We visited Alba with my husband's company and dined here one evening. The atmosphere was city, but with 40 guests in the cellar brick-walled rooms it got quite warm without proper ventilation. And acoustics weren't the best.

The appetizer--truffle flan in cheese fondue--was served in ceramic crocks kept warm with tea lights. This was the evening's highlight, a yummy cheese soup/fondue with a small fragrant omelett floating in the middle. If we could, we would have licked the bowl clean. Extremely good and worthy of being a main dish.

The pasta main course was nothing special, but we enjoyed the tiramisu dessert.

Service was ok, they could easily have had 1 or 2 more service personnel for such a large group.

After a wonderful week with the best food of italian cuisine avalible, we ended it at the worst place possible. Our expectations were high as it is rated fairly high on trip advisor, and the place looked charming and inviting. However, that is as far as the high expectations would pay off. The food was a disaster. The antipastis were served 15 minutes after the childrens maincourse, which was the worst gnocchi I have ever experienced. The taste was basicly not there at all. When we got our maincourse it was to discover a flat and dry salad, with som grilled potatos that tasted like leftovers heated in the microwave, and the fillet was cold and raw, Just barly grilled to Color on both sides. The staff was unattending and seemed bored of their costumers, generally. Thanks, but No thanks!

The restaurant was set up in a beautiful cellar environment that made you feel like you were in the Middle Ages, at least almost :) We ordered the Fair menu with 5 dishes, at a quite affordable price of 40 € per person. As expected, we received truly Italian dishes, and also flavors that were maybe a little interesting to us. In the end, the portions were so big we skipped the dessert. When we received the bill, waiter told us that they gave us one round of prosecco glasses for free :) Very nice service and good food if you like the original flavors! Mind you, now we also understood why there is a "Tourist menu" available :)
