Perfect place to relax and unwind. Set in a large garden. This hotel has history, rooms are large and airy.
You need a car to get here; plenty of free parking and friendly staff. The restaurant serves excellent food and the portions are very generous, this goes for dinner and the English breakfast. Reasonable prices considering the decent size meals. Well worth a visit if you are transiting or touring the area

We stayed in a suite for our years anniversary, complimentary stay. Staff are unbelievably friendly. Restaurant is very nice and food is perfect including the breakfast. My only concern and it's being picky, the jacuzzi in our room seemed to leave a yellow stain around the waterline in the bath which was easily cleaned. Not sure what it was but could have maybe been ladies makeup. First world problems I know and like I said it's being picky as it's literally the only thing to be negative

We booked a room a year in advance to attend my wife's sisters wedding , we asked over and over if it was a proper disabled room as I am in a wheelchair, "ow yes , no problem , it's fully fitted out as a disabled room". They advertise these rooms as disabled rooms on all the on line literature.
So imagine my surprise when after the service and meal we collected our bags to go to the room to change , the corridor to the rooms where full of narrow doors in corners and with steep ramps with every door blocked open with blocks of wood . This left me with a couple of mil clearance either side if I completely moved my hands my chair still jammed in every doorway and remember this was the only way to the rooms .
Finally I arrived to find I had the same problem getting into the bedroom , once in it obvious this was in no way a disabled room . I could not get between the bed and the wall to access the bathroom and even if I could I was unable to turn my chair to enter the bathroom with yet again a standard small door . Once in no support bars round the toilet at all and the shower was a step in tray with glass door therefore useless and again without and support bars .
I contacted the manager who arrived , no explanation, no apology other than they are full booked and "I WAS COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF YOUR PERSONAL NEEDS " , I explained that I should not have to explain my needs ,vi asked for a disabled room and had they supplied that then my needs would have been fulfilled.
I was then told he had organised an exchange with a lady down the corridor, my wife was shown a pair of double doors with the a sign saying BEWARE OF THE STAIRS" , this was a clear warning given I am sitting in a wheelchair, he opens the door to reveal a huge flight of stairs that I was expected to negotiate to reach the room , this was explained to him like a 5 year old that wheelchairs do not do flights of stairs . At this point I gave up .
We where forced to go home after the evening function leaving my sister is in law and the party ,ruining the entire day .I have fully photographed the entire sorry episode,
I spoke to a lovely assistant manager who arranged a full refund and was full of apologies that clearly escaped the manager .
DO NOT BOOK A ROOM AT THIS HOTEL IF YOU ARE DISABLED , THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE THEM BUT THEY DONT , YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED . IF YOU ARE BOOKING A WEDDING WITH DISABLED GUESTS YOY WISH TO ACCOMMODATE AGAIN GO ELSEWHERE .
SHOCKING PERFORMANCE FROM A RATED HOTEL .

Dear Mr Harrison,

I am sorry that you encountered this problem at our hotel. The room you stayed in is accessible however being a grade 1 listed building, there are some features we can't offer. We are unable to change the width of the doorway due to the nature of the building, but the doorway is wide enough for a wheelchair user to get in, which is clear from your photo.

I am not sure why you have shown photo of the small staircase as you didn't need to use this to access your room. The room you were staying in was on the ground floor. Our General Manger certainly didn't need to be spoken to like a 5 year old and is fully aware that wheelchairs don't go down stairs!

However what we won't tolerate, is our staff to be spoken to in an abusive manner. Your attitude to our general manger was unnecessary and your use of bad language and your aggressive behaviour was uncalled for. Our staff don't come to work to be spoken to the way you spoke to them, and I hope that on reflection you would agree with this.

Regards

My husband & I took our grandchildren to stay for 3 nights in a 4 poster room.
The hotel is out in the countryside so a drive away from local attractions but this, was fine for us.
The granchildren enjoyed the outside play area.
The waiting staff at breakfast were ver friendly & patient with the children & the reception staff (bar 1) that we saw were also very friendly & enquired about our day & stay.
We were given a tour of the 'dungeon' & again the male member of staff was very friendly.
The only negative comment was on the last night when we could hear the TV being played & the guests talking in the room next door.
I would definitely recommend this hotel & would return.
