We recently came back from a family holiday at Cabogata Garden Hotel & Spa - please ignore the bad reviews as it is fantastic.

I travelled with my wife and 2 children aged 2 and 6.

Location
The hotel is located in El Toyo region of Almeria about 10-15 minutes transfer from the Airport. It's a really quiet location - possibly a bit remote but we came for a holiday with the kids not to party. There's a plaza about 5 minutes walk down the road with some bars and children's amusements. The sea front is a lovely walk but the beach isn't sand and the sea is a bit rough but that's not the hotel's fault.

Hotel
The hotel is very clean and ALL of the staff are very friendly and can't do enough to help. The food choice caters for everyone - it's all inclusive so it can be busy on times but I never noticed us having to wait long for delicious, hot food. For those people that have complained about the food then you must be some of the fussiest eaters in the world as there's something for everyone.

Our room was great - nice and big with enough space for us all. I read a review saying the room isn't child-friendly. I'm not being funny but I don't ever recall going to a Spanish hotel with carpet to stop people slipping... We had a great view of the pool and a side on view of the sea.

Entertainment
There's a full entertainment schedule throughout the day with the hotel's team and Lollo & Bernie Club. The staff are great and our kids loved spending time with them. The evening disco can get a bit repetitive but, again it's aimed at children. There were loads of children up dancing and having fun. That's what we've come here for right? To see our children have fun!

All in all, this was a fantastic holiday. We'd definitely consider coming back for the right price.

Room Tip: 3233 is a large room and has a great view of the pool and side view of the sea.

This is a family hotel. Only ten mins from airport be aware if you are on an early morning flight the rooms are not available till 1pm.Prompt check in. Early flight and room not available till 1pm not great when we were up at 2.30 am.
Room clean and roomy. Bathroom shower over a low level bath. complimentary toiletries hairdyer. Always had hot water even late at night. Tv but no English channels. Balcony with clothes airer need pegs as it gets very windy. Small fridge
Safety deposit 10 euros for a wk repaid at end off holiday. Pool towels 10 euros each repaind at end off holiday.
Food lots of choice self serve buffet style. Always seated quickly and served drinks tables cleared quickly. Snacks available att he pool bar.
Pool area clean lots of beds. This hotel is plagued with lots of flies outdoors used citronella spray which did keep them away
Beach very disappointing.
Small supermarket 5 mins walk away.more shops bars etc a good 30/40 min walk.
Entertainment team friendly but not pushy.
Entertainment kids disco between 9/10 goes on for to long lots of messing about.
Adult entertainment could be better.
This hotel is used by Spanish schools on short holidays. This hotel is very popular with Spanish tourists.
This hotel is really geared up for families with kids of all ges. Would highly recommend this hotel if you have kids. If you want quiet or a lovely beach to sit on don't book this hotel
Had a lovely break but wouldn't return

Room Tip: room 2328 overlooks front of hotel so no noise from entertainment

food was plentiful, fresh and hot, with a good selection at busy times you have to wait for food to be replenished, but its worth the wait! all staff very friendly and nothing is to much trouble. would go back.

on arriving we were dropped off on the opposite side of the road: 2 adults,2 babies,2 pushchairs, 2 large suitcases and hand luggage!!! check in was slow and as we arrived around 10am we had no room to check in to until around 1pm. the first room we were offered was below standard and on returning to the reception and initially being told we could move rooms with a surplus charge, eventually we got upgraded without charge and the room was better. the hotel was very clean, very tidy, but by no means is this hotel a four star. and certainly not child friendly!!! our room, as I could imagine all rooms being the same, was lethal floor wise if wet in any way ie: shower! so extreme care with 2 babies/toddlers! on opening the wardrobe door it was left on one hinge and could been so much worse! on shutting the bathroom door, the air vent cover fell from the ceiling! again, this could have been so much worse. on both occasions on reporting it to reception, not one apology was offered!!! hotel? they have it all wrong!! one bar feeds the whole of the complex! a circular bar with queues all round and any snacks offered from the opposite side of the bar created an all round queue. this is not taking away from the fact that all staff were amazing, they did and do a fantastic job, in all areas. then in the evening, one bar (awful set up) with an uncouth queuing system is available, again, staff not at fault. I can honestly say that the toilet facilities were dire. I counted in total on the ground floor a total of 5 toilets!! am I wrong?? and there was one toilet in the evening bar area, which was disgraceful to say the least, no, definitely not a four star!! and to sit around the childrens play/activity pool there was not one close toilet to b had!!! we had to queue for this area to be opened at 10am and with limited amounts of beds the queues that formed at two gates)never knowing which was to be opened first would be lengthy. the size of the food area in the restaurant was both small/compact and at times congested - the food choice minimal, but again, all staff commended. the beach was a nice walk, but not really suitable for little ones and the sea conditions were rough, there was a life guard stand, but this was never manned. the entertainment was 90% geared towards children, but, in my opinion it was awful and I felt that there was no interaction with guests on the whole from the team, they barely smiled or spoke and require a lot more experience. overall the whole of the hotel needs to be made more safe for children and lots of additions and changes to be mad in general. don't expect to do a lot outside of the hotel, an extremely quiet, if not deserted area, very few people about and a handful of small local shops within walking distance. just to end. our first few were relatively quiet and peaceful with queuing not always lengthy and on the whole in order and with politeness, that was affected tremendously and for the worse when droves of Spanish arrived on sight !!!!

First of let me start with putting peoples minds at rest. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel, the rooms, food, entertainment etc.

We stayed here on the 13th June for a week all inclusive. After reading some of the reviews I was slightly apprehensive about the hotel but I always give it a shot before I write a review (unlike some idiot who hasn't even been and give it 3 stars) before giving my honest opinion.
We are a family of 3, 2 mid twenties adults and a 5 year old.

The room: Exceptionally clean, the rooms are big, good bathroom with free gels etc, large balcony with table and chairs (we did upgrade to a larger sea view room), TV, hairdryer, towels changed everyday, nice comfy beds with plenty of pillows. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

The hotel: well looked after, could do with a few touch ups here and there but so could every hotel. It's clean, staff are friendly, you couldn't ask for anything more.

Entertainment: I've seen many people complain about the entertainment. Your in a children's focused hotel. It is done in 3 languages and is focused on children, the adult entertainment is a bit pants but what do you expect from a lollo and Bernie kids hotel. Don't expect to be amazed but expect your kids to be singing and dancing and having fun on the stage.

The food: again I see many people slating the life out of the food. It's a all inclusive Spanish hotel and you get what you expect when they cater for a variety of different people. If you struggle to find something to eat you must be the fussiest person in the world because there is plenty of choice and it's hot. It can get quite busy the same as any all inclusive buffet does so just be wary of the times you eat.

The waterpark: amazing and perfect for kids. Only downside is it's hard to get a bed so best get down there early if you want to stay around it. If not just get beds round the pool and walk down and sit on the rock.

The pools: there are 2 large pools, they are cold to start with but once your in there fine. They do get busy and I found they must open up the hotel as a sort of Butlins on the a Friday and Saturday as it did get mega busy but get a bed early and you'll be fine. It's big enough for hundreds of people.

Downsides: as always there is a few downsides, the location is quiet if you want to go out and about ( this didn't bother us but I can imagine to others it may), sometimes they put alot of food on that is not what you would expect all at 1 time for example we had rabbit and snails on the same night, so choices were more limited but apart from that food was good. There are some small bits that need doing around the hotel. And the only bad thing I can really say is that the bars get very busy and you do have to wait a while to be served, but you can order 5 6 or 7 drinks at a time so just stock up and make them last a bit longer.

I also forgot to mention that alot of branded spirits are all included in the drinks range so don't be afraid to ask for Gordon's, Bombay, Smirnoff, Bacardi etc as they are all included.

Overall a good holiday, a few issues that could do with being ironed out so that's why it hasn't got a full 5 stars. But please don't be put off by bad reviews. You get what you pay for and it does its purpose properly.
