This is an amazing and very unique statue it’s on the skyline and it’s very tall, also she looks like a normal lady withchlid on one side and then on the other side of the statue you see the skeleton of the lady and the baby it is very weird!!!
Worth seeing

We weren’t aware of Verity before arriving in Ilfracombe, but she makes her presence well known on the small pier! We were fascinated by her, well worth a visit.

I have no idea why Ilfracombe is the recipient of this statue for a period of 20 years (apart from the fact that Damien Hirst who created it lives nearby in Combe Martin). It is arresting as if you are not aware of it being there, it comes as a shock. A huge statue of a pregnant lady looking out to sea with a sword in hear hand (allegory for justice, she is standing on books and has scales of justice behind her in her other hand). Also the side which is on the sea side shows the inside of her body - muscles, bones and even her growing foetus. I loved it but as all art, it is divisive. People should go and see it and make up their own mind.

Well, I find myself sitting firmly on the fence on this one. As others have said, the statue is very imposing and I think I understand its meaning, but quite why it stands where it does, I’m unable to fathom. I also should say that I prefer the view from the landward side to that from the seaside. Love or loathe Damien Hirst, at least he gets people talking about art.
