The setting of the hotel is wonderful. The grounds are incredibly well kept. After working in horticulture myself for over 39 years I can appreciate the hard work and skill involved in keeping the grounds looking so nice. Now onto the hotel itself……..not quite so good.
Before arrival we tried to contact the hotel by phone and email only to never get an answer. We later found out that the hotel and restaurant are actually closed two days per week at the moment because of staff shortages. A message on the website, an automated email reply and a telephone answer message explaining the situation would have saved a lot of hassle.
Our room was very nice, if a little bit small.
Now Henrock - the restaurant. A perfectly pleasant evening meal, however in our opinion nowhere near the standards required of a restaurant with aspirations of Michelin stars or similar. The breakfast supplied was abysmal. It would be nice to see the use of locally produced ingredients. I don’t think that a restaurant run by a chef who holds a Michelin star should be using jars of Tiptree marmalade on the breakfast table, when I know there are some great artisan producers in the county of Cumbria.

I booked a night here as a treat for my husband's 40th and it did not disappoint. The hotel is beautiful with stunning gardens and views down to the lake. Our bedroom was nice, comfy bed & great bathroom.
The staff are great & nothing is too much trouble. We ate in Henrock for dinner & it was fantastic. Breakfast was very good too with a great selection of options to choose from.

Just like one of the below reviews, our longstanding booking was cancelled with one week notice and we were given the excuse of staff shortages and a Brand Aligned Event, despite being told the decision was taken within the best interests of our valued guests and this may cause us inconvenience. Please make of that what you will ! Very, very poor. If you want a holiday, especially as we travel abroad less and seek to support UK businesses do not book here.

Never got to stay. Two weeks before arrival confirmed everything in place and breakfast/dinner reservations sorted. 6 days before phoned and cancelled my reservations (staff shortage). No offer of sorting alternative just sent a list of place on Booking.com that had availability. Received a very poor email from General Manager with no real apology and no offer of any form of compensation or assistance in booking elsewhere.

Room tip: Book somewhere else if the attitude of their General manager is anything to go by.

We stayed for 2 nights and had a truly wonderful stay.. the staff were amazing (Adele and Michael in particular) and the food and cocktails were flawless… we had room 25 and enjoyed wonderful views from both the private patio and the hot tub.. the grounds are amazing and we’d go nowhere else if were in the Lake District again.. it’s worth the cost to be spoilt!
