Owner description: The Cultural World Heritage Site of Schönbrunn Palace is Austria's most frequently visited tourist attraction. In the palace the residential and state rooms with their original furnishings and decorations convey an authentic impression of the imperial lifestyle. The park and gardens surrounding the palace make Schönbrunn in a unique synthesis of Baroque art as well as providing a convenient and highly popular recreational area for Vienna's population.

We paid for the palace tour and found that there isn’t much to learn except for the rich history of 1 monarchy of Austria’s history.
No photography is allowed within the palace though except outside of the palace. However, the surrounding gardens is beautiful.
The labyrinth is not that much to scream about as well.

Schools Schoenbrunn - beautiful fountain - is certainly one of the highlight in a city blessed with many attractions. The view from the Gloriette over the gardens, the palace and the skyline of Vienna is breathtaking! A must see if you are visiting Vienna.

On a long weekend visit to Vienna you should find time to visit at least one of the city`s palaces. We chose the Schonbrunn Palace, spending a fascinating afternoon there and getting a sense of the splendour of Hapsburg Austria. We also took in some of the grounds, but you could easily spend a whole day there exploring all of the gardens. It`s easy to get to too, using Vienna`s U-Bahn system.

Decided to take public transit and it was a breeze. Really enjoyed the castle. I recommend going to the castle. Have a snack in the restaurant there and be blown away by their deserts.

The Habsburgs’ summer palace is impressive, certainly. There are some fascinating things here, but I think that more could be done to put it all into context. As a non-expert, I can’t remember whether it was Marie Therese or which Marie who started this palace. Each room on the tour is described and explained reasonably well, but there isn’t really a good historical sequence to them. Note: there are two palace tours of which you probably would only bother doing the shorter one; I did the longer one and yes there are more rooms and yes some of them are interesting, but... how much royal palace can you swallow in a day?

If you aren’t into seeing variations of wall treatments and Habsburg royal artists’ paintings, maybe just walk around the outside of the buildings, and visit the mostly free gardens, and maybe pop into the Gloriette where there’s a lovely if pricey cafe.

Also I would suggest a morning visit just to minimise the crowds from the huge tour companies such as Viking. I visited midweek, 2:30pm, and that seemed to be peak tour-company time.

Thank Philip R
